I have a 1993 240sx conv. with a automatic transmission.

In the morning when it is cold (around 60F, its san francisco it doesn't get COLD) it sometimes does not change gear out of first into second. This happens only once, after it has happend it will not happen again until the next day.

At other times the point at which the gears change up vary, sometimes the RPM's go up over 6000 before the gear changes.

How bad is this?

Mine did the same thing. Doesn't matter what the temp is. I pulled over, put it in park, then back into drive, and it drove fine and hasn't acted up since.

It also gets stuck in 2nd gear from time to time. When it does that, I just drop it into neutral while coasting, then back into drive. It usually goes away. It gets stuck in 2nd gear at least 2 times a week.

Im up in Canada and my 93 did the same thing, swapped transmission with my coupe and still did the same thing. I tested the tps and it was giving a weird reading so I put a new one in and its cured the issue. hope that helps!

hey i know how to fix it and it costs nothing. you see theres a sensor that measures the resistance in the line and makes it shift according to that. cuz its an electronic transmission. theres a second way the car can shift. it just goes by the engine rpm and throttle position which is the better way to do it but it doesnt by default. all you gotta do is pull a sensor plug. its behind the battery a little bit and its the top one. pull it and the car will never do it again. the previous owner did the research and fixed it and told me about it . so far ive helped a couple other people with the info.you will also notice the od on light blinking after you turn it on.
