there's a lot of options. if i were you i would do the 5 speed swap. but the mechanic is crazy because autos are easy to find. especially since the pathfinder transmissions for around the same year as the 240's is almost exactly the same, and interchangeable. and might actually be better trannies because they have thicker clutch rings inside. so if you're going back to an auto.... you can use a pathfinder transmission. also a lot of people think that thier transmission went out, i.e. it wont go in gear, forward or reverse, but it will go into park... could very well just be the torque converter. which is far less pricewise to repair then to rebuild a whole transmission or to replace it. but you still need to drop it from the car to get to it. so if its just the torque converter, and you have a high mileage transmission, then you might as well spend the extra money while you have it out to do a typical rebuilt, such as replacing the clutch rings, maybe even the valves. (if you plan to keep the car for awhile) DO NOT SPEND ALOT OF MONEY ON THIS! we are here to help.

yea this is my first 240 im like in love with this thing im planning on keeping it for awhile my first car was a 92 4door legend 5spd which was a rare car too but this thing is so much more fun to drive than the legend even tho its slower i love the visibilty of the big windshield and how it feels so low to the ground im in love man im not selling this baby even if it kills me. so your saying if im planing on keeping the car for awhile i should do the manual swap or fix the torque converter?

Either do the manual swap now or find an extremely cheap used auto transmission and torque converter and get them put in.

Keep in mind that the 240SX auto transmission is pretty awful. It weighs 45 lbs more than the manual, shifts poorly, and isn't that reliable. Get rid of it now if you can work it out.

cut the crap you have had 20 of us tell you to do the 5spd swap. you dont want another auto transmission it's going to crap out they all do.

bottom line if you want the car for a long time do the 5spd!!!!

I think this is about twice what it should cost.. You should be able to get a clutch pedal for $50 shipped max..You don't need a brake pedal (just cut the one you have)Crossmember should be no more than $50 shipped max..Driveshaft should be no more than $50 shipped max.. .What fluid line?? clutch soft line? Get it at an auto parts store for under $10.

-I think you can keep the flywheel you already have. -New clutch is a good idea. -Master and slave cylander sound good. -Trans should be between $200 and $300 depending on shipping. -Clutch hardline can be bought from the nissan dealership for like $17. -You can get a used shifter really cheap.. but if you want a short shifter.. that's cool. -You don't need a new ECU.

As for labor... yeah.. probably a good 8 hours for book time.. at $75/hour. I bet you could find a local NICO guy who would do it for $100 and a case of beer. Depending of course on having the proper tools for the job..

Find that guy and I'll drive out there from DC and have him do another swap while he's at it. I'll even bring tools!

you lived in brooklyn park eh? thats ridiculous. Your vert is quite sexy, that must be the xenon lip?

either way, it all depends on what im doing this summer, i imagine i'll have more than enough time to do this. i dont know about 100 bucks though.... i think 300 for the labor is more appropriate, considering what has to go into it.

mnvert i see you're already looking on d-town. thats the cheapest place to find parts.

also in response to your posts you have everywhere about this, you could do without buying the brake pedal, installing it kinda sucks. all you would do is saw off a portion of the brake pedal. And finding an MT driveshaft in MN is hard.

Yeah, Xenon lip. Thanks.

I lived all over the western suburbs, N and NE Mpls, and Midway. But I lived in BP first.

Man, it must be hard to find good condition 240s and parts in the Twin Cities. RWD is not that common and salt just eats the cars up. There used to be a huge you-pull-it junkyard that had imports - it was way out west off of Hwy 55, about a 50 minute drive. Can't remember the name, but it was a cool place because it was cheap and had a ton of really old cars. It's probably still around.

once you accumulate all the parts you need, then we can discuss doing this swap.

And no i dont wanna do it from your garage if i do, i'd much rather you brought the car to my house so i can swap it my way. Most people disagree with me, but i pull the motor to make my life easier.

however, most people can finish the swap in two days. ive heard of it being done in a night. it could take a week with problems.

as for immediately, like i said, not til summer, i know finals are coming up in a month. and thats not including the work i have on the race car at school. SO if you need to done before the summer, call RS, or John Haley Motorsports

Eikon, when you're done with his RB20 swap, please give me a quote for an LS1 swap.

I think your trans is shot for sure. My recollection is that the sensors effected how well the trans shifted between gears once it was already in a forward gear.

Most likely it is your torque converter that is shot... otherwise you would hear terrible grinding and noises when you try to shift into gear.

So.. good try on the sensors, but I think I'd chalk that one up to being toast.

An Rb20det swap will run you almost $3k just for engine and parts. I strongly recommend avoiding the RB swap at your aptitude level. No offense.. but they are not simple engines to install, maintain, service, etc.. If you aren't comfortable doing a trans swap on your own.. I don't recommend owning an RB.. just my $.02.

I'd be happy to help you with your trans swap.. but it's a good 5 hour drive from Green Bay to your side of the Twin Cities.. That makes life difficult..

Hit up ChorthaoM3.. he posted above saying he's got a trans for sale. he mentioned that he pulled his trans already.. sounds to me like he's got the knowledge and tools for the job.. Ask him if he'd be willing to help you out.. especially if you buy his trans from him eh??

Keep trying buddy.. you'll work something out soon.

No need to invoke the name of the french connection store. Let's just assume the transmission is shot and you made the right decision, as you will never even know whether it was the wrong decision or not.
