Well today I took the RB20 to the track for the car's any my first time ever. We had to drive about 3 hours away to get to a decent strip, so I ended up trailering my car down. I got there with a completely full tank of gas....bad planning on my part.

I was pretty pleased with the outcome. I ran a total of 6 times in a 4 or 5 hour period. I've got the stats from all of my runs listed below. Tomorrow I can scan in some timeslips if anyone wants a little more convincing :D

This post will probably end up being kinda long, so just skip to the last run if you want to see my best time.

Run 1 Run 2 Dropped tire pressure here from 38 psi (street) to 25 psi.

Run 3 I bogged big time on this launch. The tires hooked up much better with the lower pressure.

Run 4 Since I bogged so much last time, this time I launched around 5-5.5k on the tach. I planned to slip the clutch but with all the adrenaline pumping I just dumped it. I spun through the first 2 gears and didn't stop going sideways until I shifted into 3rd. I shifted out of 2nd early to stop spinning and probably landed in 3rd around 3500 rpm.

Run 5 After the wheel spin from the last launch I overcompensated for this run. I bogged so much I was dropped down to about 1500 rpm or so after the launch. Pitiful 60 foot time.

Run 6 This run I was by myself on the track so I could concentrate better on what I was doing. I launched around 3.5k and slipped the clutch out enough to hold my rpms pretty steady until I gained traction.

I knew she had a sub 13.5 run in her. The last run was the only one that I got a halfway decent launch. With better tire than some worn out Continental touring ones and more practice I know I can do a lot better.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention there was another 240 with an RB20DET swap at the track. His best time however was 13.7 something :D He had a boost controller and had the boost turned up to .9 bar, as well as a few other goodies. However he didn't have an LSD like I do.

Congrats on hitting the low 13's. You'll do so much better with a set of BFG's or Nitto's. I remember when I switched to BFG's on my Skyline, GTS-t RB20, the launches were alot easier to control with alot more consistency. Just do a decent burn out, just enough for a good dose of smoke to start and you'll be set. I was launching at about 4700-5100 depending. With a about a 1.0 second clutch slip. That was enough to drop a whole second in the 1320.

Not to mention your full tank of gas. You should see .5 to a full second for every hundred lbs of wt reduction. Gas is heavy...

Sorry it took me so long to respond...I got in dang late last night and slept till noon :D

Alright mods:

Megan Racing 3" Cat-backGutted S13 catstock RB downpipePowerdigger Hybrid Monster IntercoolerJWT Pop ChargerCustom semi-insulated cold air box with a tube running to bumper for fresh airNo P/SNo A/C, or any air of any kind. My blower motor came out a long time ago and I'm too lazy to put it back in.Edit: Crap, I forgot one of the most important parts. I'm using the R32 LSD, which not only improves traction, but also gives quicker acceleration because of its 4.36 ratio.

I always forget stuff, but I'm pretty sure that's everything that has an effect on power output.

What suspension mods do you have on the car, and what boost level are you seeing? Those would affect your times as well. I have thought about sourcing one of those rears since that gear ratio is what comes with the 20's on the Skylines. I think I might stay with my 4.11's since I already have the LSD and my later mods will require taller gearing.

Sweet bud... nice to see a 20 guy putting up great numbers!

I have 0 suspension mods done to the car so far. As far as boost level, my gauge reads as high as about 12-12.5 psi around 4500-5000 rpm, then it drops down to about 10 by redline.

Nice times. Have you had the car dynoed?

actually the rule of thumb for weight is a tenth (.10) for every one hundred pounds. Not .5 seconds.

Also, one gallon of gas weighs approximately 6 lbs... just for FYI.

Sounds cool doesn't it. I think it is the Air intake Filter.

Also, if you are using this car for Drag Racing don't touch the suspension. It has been well documented that the factory suspension does really well with weight transfer. Derek Greaser pulled 1.49 60 ft times on bonestock suspension. That was a 10.85 with 385 whp on an S13 chassis.

No, the car hasn't been dynoed yet. I didn't feel a reason to until I installed some kind of fuel or engine management. I don't expect anything spectacular though, since I really have no big power adders (stuff like boost controller, upgraded turbo, etc).

I'm trying to save up some cash for a 3" downpipe, test pipe, lightweight flywheel, clutch, 2 lightweight wheels with some drag radials for track use, an alignment (I noticed after running at the track I really wore down the insides of my tires more than anything else), and a lightweight 1 piece driveshaft. My goal after all that will be 12.xx. If I can make that on the stock turbo with stock boost (except whatever I gain by running a less restrictive exhaust) then I'll be a happy man ;)

If I get a chance to sit on the dyno and get a baseline run for cheap, then I may do it. But right now the power doesn't matter to me so much as the speed :D

Well I'd say with a 13.4 you are well on your way to 12s. Just get your 60ft times down a bit. Downpipe and turbo extension would work wonders. I would say that you can hit 12s without most of the stuff you named. Flywheel, driveshaft, etc. is just insurance that you will be in 12s.

If you could pull a 1.9x 60ft, there is a good chance you will run 12s. My best 60ft so far is a 2.006. That was with VLSD and bfgoodrich drag radials, 225-50-15. Of course I'm running a blacktop sr20det, made 244.2 on 1 BAR.

You are close and you should be proud for your first time out with the car. 13.4 isn't anything to laugh about it, that is moving out pretty good. :ylsuper

I've got an excel spreadsheet that you are welcome to that datalogs your runs. You enter your data from the time slip and it calculates averages, min, max etc. Good tool for seeing improvement.

I'd really love to do just 1 mod at a time and head back to the drag strip to see if there's any improvement, but unfortunately the one I went to is 3 hours away. I live about 35 miles west of Atlanta, so if anyone can recommend a decent drag strip within 2 hrs of here then I'll definitely be able to make it more often :)

There are a few up near Atlanta, but I've heard they are always extremely crowded and have horrible track preparation.

Hybrid and I might have to meet you out there some time (if you go to the same one)... maybe even get the guys from Unstable out there with us. We are 5 hrs east of atlanta (UH is about 30 min W I think, Hybrid is friends with them), and it would be cool to have a lot of RB guys at the track! Maybe we could plan this for sometime in the next couple of months.

I would think silver dollar raceway is within two hours of atlanta.

Silver Dollar is 121 miles away from my house according to MapQuest. The one I went to, Montgomery Motorsports Park, is only 130 something away. Looks like I'm stucking driving about 3 hours no matter which one I go to.

Nice #'s! I ran friday night too with my RB25 S13. I have 3" turboback exhaust and 10 psi of boost. I also have a cone filter. This is my best run

60ft 2.1391/8 9.026 @ 79.78 MPH1/4 13.810 @ 104.76

I dynoed 230 WHP 3 weeks ago. I am running stock clutch with my street tires. I am ready to buy some good rubber for the rear. What size will fit on the stock S13 wheels? I am thinking of going ES100's or Azenis.

There is a guy in my SCCA chapter in SC that has Azenis on his Mini and says they are awesome for the dry, but heinous in the wet... just a warning.

they also perform better when cold. When they get heated up they lose traction majorly.

So are what other tires should I consider? I am looking to stay around $80 each and under.

I know the rule of thumb, but I tested the theory in my Skyline 5 different times. With a friend who weighs 201lbs in the passenger seat I ran 1 to 1.1 seconds slower every time his fat *** was in the car. Maybe I'm optimistic, but I atleast had the results tested.
