Trac and slip lights come on while driving. Sometimes in 5 min., other times 45 min. Turn engine off then on again and they will stay off for a while but eventually come on again. Is the most common cause the blue relays under the battery? Does anyone have any suggestions. I have no CEL on and no unusual sounds from engine. My car is a 1994 q45. Please get back.

Check battery (deep cycle stress) and alternator first, then go down the line as suggested in the many previous posts.

Yes exactly right!

When I first came on here I was a complete idiot. But people being hard and borderline rude made me the Q45 enthusiast I am today. So this guy comes on here spell Infiniti correctly and knows a little about his car and is asked to search? Thats not helpful at all.

Lokim with all the topics I answered did you read none of them? I must say many members put up with a lot of my crap and still helped me out. I am hope none left because of me and if any did I am extremely sorry.

I do admit when I learned what I leaned because of the help of others I was rude to new people who joined up. But I am sorry and I have learned from my mistakes and never again will I be rude to a newbie.

As for the original posters question I would say check the TCS codes via the method found in the service manual. Or take it to anyone with a Nissan Consult (300ZX specialty shop*, Infiniti dealer or Nissan Dealer*) and they will be able to do a road test and read the code(s) and tell you the problem.

*They must have a Consult two to be able to interface with your car.

Wow guys, I wasn't trying to be rude. I guess it's hard to gauge the context of something when it's on a computer screen...

In any case, lots of new people come on here and ask general questions about well-documented issues without doing any legwork. I was looking for more of a response along the lines of "I have tried searching, and don't seem to be getting anywhere..." I was simply verifying that the guy at least made an effort. I certainly wasn't expecting to be called an idiot by someone who's never even met me.

Infinitiguy, you know me. When have I ever been out-and-out rude on this board? I always try my best to be helpful and courteous.

I had these lights come on with intermittent misfires associated with coils. Changed coils , no more lights. They can come on for various fail codes me thinks.

Once again, superficial checks of the alternator or battery will not suffice!

I had this problem and the dealer replaced two relays, I belive for the throttle position sensor. relay part numbers were 25230-89981. If thats the problem its an inexpensive fix.

You hit the nail on the head as I thought you meant something else man, Sorry.

One relay (Both are the same color, shape and amount of connections) is for the Throttle Motor (Closes the throttle to prevent more power going to the rear wheels...). And the other is for the Traction Control System (TCS) pump (Part that controls the rear brakes for the TCS).

I had this happen to me as well, I got my bag of relays and replaced them. Used is better than nothing but OEM new is best of all! Its not too had to replace them but the black battery cover, battery hold down and the battery must be removed. I would say 1/2 tops at a shop. Getting the relays of the metal brackets is the hard part. The ABS Actuator also secures the three connectors to metal brackets. Thats a pain on nice day, Never mind the conditions I removed it in.

Do you own a 1990-1996 Infiniti Q45 (NG50)?

I have just replaced the two blue relays under the battery. The part # was 25230 89981. However, I did notice that on the OLD relays, one was marked 363A and the other one was marked 391A . I believe the newly installed relays were identical. Should that make a difference?

Anyway, after the installation and driving 61 miles of "battery reset", the lights came on again. If it really is the two blue relays, should the problem be fixed right away, or will the ignition have to go through several "turnovers" before the lights finally (and hopefully) stay off for good?

In reply to Lokim's " search" comment, a more detailed response might be required, so here goes;

I HAVE.... searched and searched and searched and...(did I say searched?). I happen to live in a fairly remote town, with a population of 1000 people. The nearest Infiniti dealership is over 300 miles away and the nearest Nissan is close to 200 miles away.

I have talked to several Infiniti dealerships over the phone discussing this slip and trac light issue. I have heard everything from low brake fluid, worn brake pads or dirty and/ or damaged wheel speed sensors. I have heard conflicting answers about the wheel speed sensors being the problem. What do you all think? CAN the problem be faulty wheel speed sensors, if ONLY the trac and slip lights come on and NOT the ABS light as well??

I have also talked to several mechanics about this, including an online ("mechanic"?). I have googled my brains out trying to come up an answer. I guess the next step is to plan a trip to the nearest suitable service shop and have my car scanned with the proper scanning tool, that being one that can read the TCS system and all the components involved.

If anyone else would like to shed some "light on" this topic, feel free and lets "trac" down some info. I apologize for the puns, they just tend to "slip" out!

In the service manual their is a chart that displays what would bring up the TCS OFF, SLIP and ABS lights.

What lights are lit up on your dashboard and when are they lit up (Ignition key on or after starting the engine)?

Never go to a "Online" mechanic that is not vehicle specific.

Update;

I removed the divider in the trunk so I could see the Traction Control Unit( TCU ) and read the LED blinking lights. It came up Code 18 which is abnormal oil pressure with the TCS actuator. Hopefully that doesn't mean I need a new actuator or TCS pump. All the fluids seem normal. Has anyone else had the same code(18) and/or have any suggestions of what the specific problem could be?

See diagnostic procedure 18 in the service manual (page 95).

Thank you. I did read the Diagnostic procedure 18 and I'm hoping the problem and the solution will be relatively simple.

Perform Preliminary Check 1 before doing anything else.

Then perform all of diagnostic procedure 18 found in the service manual.

Sell your ugly Q45 and purchase a reliable vehicle. Put all extra money that would have gone to repairs and diagnostics into your 401K.

OP's Q45 is paid for which is more than can probably be said for your your G35. The cost of repairs on a G50 is still less than car payments and the satisfaction of DIY repairs is defintely much greater than the satisfaction of posting a$$ comments on a forum like you are doing.

Now, unless you actually have something useful to contribute to the thread, go away. :poke:

I don't understand trolls as all they do is waste their time (Life). He is not advertising anything at all, but simply trying to invoke emotions. But I must admit of all the trolls this one is somewhat helpful, Saving money is the way to go.

NICO has become so popular that people like Daniel G with a 2005 Infiniti G35 feel the need to waste there time, I am honored!

Ugly??!! Have you ever seen a 1994 q45?? Also, owning a car that is over 17 years old, there will usually be some unreliability factors, MR. Infiniti G35, 2005. This is just a forum for a type of car, a Q45. We are not creating peace in the Middle East. There are many car forums out there, including ones for a G35 Infiniti. Talk to ya in 2028!

Does your ABS light also turn on? If not, It could be your secondary throttle opening signal, throttle position sensor signal (check connectors), or TCS pump relay, TCS actuator pressure module (check actuator or pump). The TCm is located underthe dash somewhere by the brake pedell. Take your camera phone and recorded the # of flashes before a pause. It will give you a better account to wahat is happening. Check the FSM, in the brake section BR-77-79 will tell you what it means. :bigthumb:

I counted the flashes in the TCS control unit(located in the back of the trunk) and they came to 18 which means "abnormal operating oil pressure" in the tcs actuator module.

I'm not sure what it means or what the exact problem is but I'm taking my q45 to a mechanic to get a more complete check up.

Is the "TCS actuator module" the same as the "TCS Actuator"? I understand the TCS actuator is very expensive, $2000, at least, for a new one, and apparently they are made NOT to fail as with the TCS pump(also very expensive). I have talked to a couple of Infiniti parts guys and they have told me they rarely, if ever, have been asked about these two parts.

Has anyone had a flash 18 before, from the TCU?(at the back of the trunk)

Could it still be something "in and around" the TCS actuator and/or TCS pump but NOT actually the parts themselves failing?

I have not yet had the TCM(behind dash) coded but I may have to yet.

My ABS light does NOT come on, by the way.

You should definenatly check the TCM also, most like you might have 13 flashes. That could mean secondary throttle valve operating signal circuit, or the TCM is in fail safe.

my mother just brought a 1996 q45 with 115k miles, ... has just TCS OFF and SLIP lights. From the little bit i read in the FSM, having both the TCS OFF and SLIP light means the system is in fail safe mode.

no check engine light
no ABS light
Has brake fluid
brake pads are not low
the cars idle is perfect 650 rpms
did notice a loose primary throttle wire (fixed it, whole throttle body looks to be recently replaced)
acceleration in her car is still sluggish though
had an oil leak from both valve covers (fixed it)
battery was made in 2008 and starts the car very quickly

from reading posts, and her lack of acceleration I think its a relay, or secondary throttle sensor... I'm going to start with replacing relays once i do more research.

Did the OP ever get the problem fixed?

No, I haven't got it fixed yet....I don't want to spend the money on a new tcs actuator....hoping it is something cheaper to fix. I'm still working on it though. Any suggestions? Have you counted the flashes on the tcu at the back of the trunk?
