Ever since my Versa reached 2000 miles I have been getting the TPMS warning light. I have had success with overinflating and then reducing to the proper pressure. I have had to do this about once every 2 weeks for the past 2 months. Last week The TPMS light started flashing and the overinflating trick did not work. So off to the dealer I go with my service bulletin in hand...

Crazy comments from the service writer:

*"There is no service bulletin for your car"*"Have you recently had a flat tire"*"Oh yeah, thats very common, all cars do the same thing, BMW, Chevy, VW"*The system is so sensitive the 1 psi difference will trigger the light"*We'll probably air your tires to the proper level. They all have to be exactly 35psi." , ,

I told him all the tires were at the exact same pressure and weather he knew it or not this is a "known" problem. He said he never heard of a known problem with the sensors.

Off to the Tech it went. Diagnosis: Bad sensor drivers side frontSensor was ordered and replaced yesterday. I'll let you know if it's a permanent fix

I had a bad sensor replaced also. It's held for about 3000 miles so far no more problems. But... after the warning went off in wife's Quest, she got me an air compressor for Christmas just in case...

yeah, mine was acting up after the first week I got it

I took it in, they "fixed" it for me

but about a week later it started going off again, but that was because some piece of shrapnel punctured the crappy stock continentals... two of them, so I had to buy two whole new tiresbut since then, I haven't had a problem with it, the system is sensitive by about 5-10 psi or soyou've just gotta check em every so often

I'm currently at about 2,000 miles since my second TPMS reset... a record, for me.

I'm curious, has any one had a THIRD failure of the TPMS yet?

***UPDATE***

So here I am 1 month later and guess what I see on my dash??

The Flashing TPMS light again!Off to the dealer I go and I get the usual:"Yeah, these lights go on when it's cold outside"

"Ummm sir, the light is flashing. There is a problem. I had the left front sensor replaced a month ago."

Sure enough, another failed sensor. This time it's the right front. Had to order sensor again (they ought to order a gross!)

On a lighter note I believe I now have the forum record for 2 TPM sensor replacements! Not to bad for a car with 4300 miles

Can this TPMS problems be reason enough to call the car a lemon? I've had the same issues at least 4 times now and even had the back rear sensor replaced. After 1 month, the light went back on again!

What's the build date on your car, just curious?

I'm starting to think that the TSB is kind of off-base as to what is causing the problem... my car wasn't covered by the TSB, but had 3 TPMS failures.

Check your state's lemon law for what the definition is. Also, you need to make sure each time you take it in for the same thing, you get it documented (a service order) or it doesn't count.

If you have had it taken in 4 times already, and it has failed again, it would qualify (in my state, anyway). I had 5 warranty failures in the car in 8,000 miles, but it was 4 different systems that failed, so my car didn't qualify.

Ok, last night I only did a visual check. This morning I went out to the garage to take a look. Tire was flat. Aired it back up, and the light went off. So I had to get it plugged. Looks like my Tire pressure light actually works properly.

Haven't seen much lately on this subject, but there are still a few of us that are suffering with dealers that don't want to go to the trouble of following the TSB.

I took mine in about two months ago with a copy of the TSB in hand. They acted put out that I had the nerve to tell them what the problem was, and told me that mine was not affected - even though the VIN was in the affected range.

The light stayed out for a while, but......

Took it back in today after making a call to NMC Customer Service. When all was said and done, they told me that the TSB was only put out in March, and they would order me a new BCM - but they are on backorder now!

I may be wrong, but it is possible that they got a little motivated when I vaguely hinted about pursuing a lemon law case!

We'll see what the BCM does, I hope I've seen the end of this problem once it is installed.

Yes in California that meets the requirements of the lemon law. I learned last night when i bought my Versa that after the 3rd repair, the manufacture can either refund your money or give you a new car.

Hope this helps.

I am SOOOOO glad the canadian V doesn't have the TPMS on it! All I read about TPMS is negative. Good luck!

I have a slightly different experience for you all:

After about 8k miles, my TPMS light began flashing, then went on solid.According to the manual, this indicates a malfunction of the system.I took it to my new dealer, since my old one (that I actually bought the car from) is totally useless and will never get a dime of my business again.Anyway, they checked it out in less than an hour and told me that the BCM (Body Control Module), which is the 'receiver' side of this system, had gone bad. They told me about the TSB, and ordered the part.I'll be getting it installed this coming Tuesday and will report back on success.

In case you're curious, the 'bad' dealer is Greenville Nissan in Greenville, NC.They told me they changed my oil, then I find out that they did not. I took it in again to actually get the service done, then they take almost 2 hrs for a simple oil change. I get the car back, open the hood, and *Tada!!* NO OIL DIPSTICK!!!! That's right folks, they forgot to replace my dipstick. I'm glad I checked before I left the dealership. On top of all that, I get attitude from the service rep when I point out that I would like to have my dipstick back.Needless to say, they will not be seeing me again.

On the other hand, East Carolina Nissan in New Bern, NC is fantastic!Everyone there is courteous, friendly, and actually seems to care about their work. They respected my tight schedule and got me in and out in less than an hour, even with diagnostic time on this TPMS thing. Whenever I decide to buy another Nissan, I'll be going there.

Sorry for the long rant, I just thought you guys would like to know,

Elmojo, I'm glad to hear that you have found a dealer that seems to be going out of their way to do the job right. Dealers like that are hard to find, be it for a Nissan or any other vehicle.

What frustrates me most about this whole TPMS problem is that it is essentially the identical technology that my FX35 has with a different "receiver". I've not had a single problem with that system since I got it, and it only came on once - when one tire dropped down to 28# when it first got cold last fall.

I'm hoping the BCM will fix my Versa since I don't want to go the lemon law route. I've got the Versa set up for towing behind my Motor Home, and don't want to have to replace that whole set up.

I will definatly back that the light goes on when its cold outside. I took several trips from western IL to mid michigan over this past winter, and the couple of times when it was just bitter cold and snowy and I could definatly tell the ground had some ice on it, cause of the uneveness...those were the only two times i had the light come on. Now that its warm again no problems.

Hi there,

I haven't seen a bulletin. I've had TPSM issues from the first month I brought the car home. And the light came on today as I drove into work. Is there a link to a document somewhere? I'm a registered Nissan owner but I can't seem to find it at nissanusa.com.

Thanks,

datgrl in Baltimore.

Well, I just bought mine last week and I have a question. What is this TBS and where can I get a copy just in case the TPMS in my car starts to act up.

I'll try to include a link to the TSB. If it doesn't show up, just search on this forum and you will find it pretty quickly.

The sending units are on the valve stems.

Well, got the new BCM installed yesterday, and so far no TPMS light staring me in the face.

I don't understand why they insist on putting way too much pressure in the tires. When I left the dealer, I stopped to check the pressure and found that each tire was aired up to at least 40# rather than the recommended 33#. I adjusted them and held my breath for several miles hoping the light didn't come on.

I guess time will tell if they finally found the fix for my car.

I had one sensor replaced at ~3k miles. I now have 12+k miles without further issues. Mine was one of the early production runs.

For anyone else who has the light come on.

DO NOT LET THE DEALER RESET THE TPMS. IT WILL COME BACK ON. THEY NEED TO REPLACE A SENSOR OR THE BCM

REPEAT: DO NOT LET THE DEALER RESET THE TPMS.

Well, after only about 24 hours and less than 80 miles I'm back to having problems again.

The TPMS light is not on, but I found out in a hard rainstorm that my AC and rear wiper do not function.

May or may not be related to the BCM replacement, but sure seems suspicious.

I've got an appointment to take the car back Monday and they will have a rental waiting for me.

I told them that I didn't want it back until it was fixed.

Also gave them an informal notice that Lemon law procedure is going to be started if there are any more problems.

I really do like the Versa, but of the more than 20 new Nissan vehicles that I have had over the last 23 years, this one is giving more problems than any other I have owned/leased.

Is there any way to stop the sensors from reading? What have the guys with aftermarket wheels done?

I can say you were lucky. I changed the front right sensor and after 24 hours the light came on again.I'll have to make another trip to the dealership and I hope this time they will get it fixed.I just wish that the Versas were not equipped with this stupid TPMS.

**UPDATE #3**

Yep...That's right. For the 3rd time I have the flashing TPMS light. 2 sensors previously replaced. I'm off to the dealership tomorrow. I sure wish my dealership would start stocking these sensors as I always have to make another trip back when the part comes in. I'll update on their diagnosis.

Guess what came on last night at 8377 miles?

SIGH. It's 120 miles round trip to the dealer with gas at 3 bucks a gallon.

Print out this Nissan Bulletin and give it to the dealer......in fact you may want to call him first and read it to the service manager and tell him the problems you have had and how far the dealership is from you.

http://www.nissanhelp.com/Owne...8.htm

Hopefully this will solve the problems.

Thank you. That's what we did the last two times we took it in and it accomplished NOTHING. I had to call Nissan directly and report the dealer.

Sadly, there is still the "she's just a woman and doesn't know what she is talking about" mentality in many dealerships in this part of the country.

On my very first trip to the dealership for my TPMS problem I arrived with service bulletin in hand. Their response:

"Uhhh we checked our computer that service bulletin doesn't exist"

"But I have it here in black and white."

"Uhhh yeah but we just checked our computer and it's not in there."

3 visits later and they order a BMC
