Could Nissan be even more vague?

How our us friends will know if they will receive the letter or if they have to go to the dealership by themselves?

Where is the boundary with "States that do not use a heavy concentration of road salt" on the map?

Man, I am cranky today!!

For what it's worth, I called the number listed in the other recall thread (1-800-647-7261) and apparently my Rogue is part of that recall, but not the TPMS recall. I'm in WI and will definitely be facing another season of salty roads, so I hope mine was already fitted with robust nuts.

That's weird, I sent the link to the steering recall to my dealer and the next morning I received a call from my dealership saying they not only have the TPMS recall in their system but the steering one also....and that my vehicle requires both recalls to be done.

They called this morning to confirm my appointment once again and said its Nissan Canada that sends out the recall letters and that they have no idea in what order they send out the letters to the customers.

But dealerships already have the info on the recalls in their system which is why they know mine requires the recalls to be addressed.

Very happy with the service I got regarding these, I will just go in on the 24th and both will get done, no hassle no issues.

I got mine done the day the recall started. The service tech told me that Nissan's experiencing a severe shortage of replacement parts from the vendor that makes the TPMS sensors and that now they're going to focus only on states that use road salt and will deal with everyone else later.

Given we have a beach condo and ski in states that use salt, I'm glad they got ours done before shutting the door here in Washington state.

Yesterday, the rear left valve blew out on my 2008 Rogue doing 110 kph on Montreal's Highway 20. Had it been the front tires, or had the highway been more crowded, my wife and I would likely be mulch right now.

The very nice tow-truck driver that Roadside Assistance sent out told us that this happens all the time, that Nissan is his best customer, and his advice was to replace all the valves with regular ones, tire-pressure sensors be damned. As we have a leased vehicle, I'm not certain we're legally allowed to do that, but it will come up in my discussions with the service department, let me assure you!

The fun news is that my particular dealership here in Montreal claims to know nuthin' 'bout no recalls, and our snow tires were put on December 9th, two months after said recall was announced, so we're pretty angry, but uncertain as to where and how this anger should be channeled.

Aside from asking for all the valves to be replaced (and insisting that the other two recalls I found on the Transport Canada database that we knew NOTHING ABOUT be verified), and demanding a new winter tire to replace the one that got shredded thanks to this defect, what would any of you guys do next?

Thanks for your time!

Let me understand something:

Did you purchase TPMS sensors for your winter tires/wheels or was it a package provided with the car?

Regardless, I believe it's within your right to demand some sort of compensation. At least to cover the repairs. If the dealer isn't willing to talk about this, I would start looking for another dealer....

Thanks for your reply!

The TPMS sensors came with the car, I don't recall if it was offered to us as an option or if it just came with our package. We are meeting the dealership with all our recall notices in hand tomorrow, I will let you know what comes of it!

What kills me, is warranty work is covered by Nissan and is basically free money for the dealer. Why your dealer did not jump on it is beyond me...

Every time I visit my local dealer for service, warranty work, recalls, etc are the first thing they check and recommend it be performed.

Update!

Dealer service rep was bewildered as to why the recalls did not show up in their system in December when the snow tires were put on, but they were there in his system this morning at 7 AM, so they've taken in the Rogue and they say they will take care of them all and replace my tire, whether they cover the cost or they get Nissan to cover the cost. The service representative also indicated that they plan to "investigate" why communication from Nissan has been so spotty, both to them and to us.

So far so good, I'll let you know what happens...

If I may just ask a unrelated question. When you go to replace the tires they are suppose to first drop the tpms. When they remount the tpms you are suppose to use a rebuild kit for each one that has a new inner washer and I thought a new outer nut. If this is the case everyone would have to replace the outer nut once they bought new tires even without the recall.

Unfortunately, that kind of detail is beyond my knowledge... What I can say is that our dealer has now performed about five recalls on our Rogue, some of them specific to cold-weather climates, including the tire sensors -- in fact, he mentioned that the front left valve was ready to blow also, which, as I mentioned before, would have more than likely killed us outright.

Now, I'm not sophisticated enough to know exactly exactly what they did, but I think I scared them enough that they double-checked everything. I at least have a two-page service document outlining what was done, which I'm sure will be very comforting as I watch it rain down on me like confetti from where I'm lying on the highway.

Gallows humor.

Oh, and they did give us a new tire. I'm sure Nissan got that phone call.

Thanks for listening!

I dont kno why everyone keeps mentioning that the TPMS is on a recall. The sensor itself is not the problem. Its just the NUT which holds it on which is defective, not the sensor. I noticed someone said they pushed the tire back and replaced it. Either you saw them do something else or thats what they just told you but only the nut is replaced. I do it on the vehicle, while on the lift. Just remove the nut (12mm deep socket). Air will not leak since the air itself will put pressure against the sensor/valve stem. Install the new nut, re-torque.

Thanks for clarifying that NissanTech.

It's nice to have a tech on here that works on these vehicles and has specific technical knowledge and experience.

This is because Nissan sent us a letter stating it was a re-call.

Yes, but not the TPMS itself. Jus the 12mm nut.
