This happened within a week or so of going to the dealer for the problem and they said that car's not on the list. So he goes to a long empty highway and calls 911 and the news chopper comes out there and the CHP make it to him and catches up with him, pulls in front of him to help him stop and when he got below 50mph, THEN he shuts the car off...Give me a break. It sounds all staged to me.
i was listening to KFI this morning and i do believe it was staged because they found out that the guy was at the dealer previously inquiring about his car to see if it was part of the recall. and he is also 5 months behind on his payments!!!

Yes - this one is starting to smell a bit. Boneheaded too as he can't have imagined this wouldn't be investigated.

wow this just in: i was listening to the news again tonight about the gentleman and the "runaway prius" and it turns out he has a LONG LONG LONG list of insurance claims against him and his wife. "missing cars" , "missing pearl necklaces" , "multiple vandalism claims against their property". and it turns out that they are also un-employed real-estate agents.wow this case makes more and more sense by the day.

On top of the morons who think they have found someome to blame for thier actions, we also have the UAW sending up fake claims.

Remember that the companies the UAW represents are being killed by toyota......who don't have UAW representation.

Don't forget that the UAW is tunneling under people's houses - secretly releasing gases that cause paranoia and dementia!

Toyota has a problem with Prius braking - in countries without the UAW as well. This fellow in California may or may not have had a problem (my bet is on not) but the actions of a single individual don't disprove a general problem. The fact that a real estate agent may be trying to scam Toyota doesn't prove that the claims of others are invalid.

This is an engineering and driver response matter.

oh dont get me wrong; something is definetly wrong with toyota cars....this guy just seems to have ran out of luck (or common sense) when he decided to get rid of his toyota through fraud.

Hydroplaning? If you have good tires then you dont need to worry about hydroplaning. If someone is wrecklessly driving around with flat or bald(ing) tires, then they should expect an accident and you can't really feel bad for their negligence.

ummm dont you know what VDC or any other stability program on a car is doing for you? its cutting the throttle aka neutral... then if you have ABS its also "pumping the brakes" for you...

thats everything that drivers of old cars before ABS, traction control, and stability control where doing manualy...

which goes back to my point... people are not taught these things any more cause cars do these things automaticly in most all newer cars...

No no no, putting a car in neutral and VDC are nowhere near the same thing.

It doesn't just cut the throttle, modern day stability control engages different braking at different wheels before u even touch the brake pedal.

Putting a car in neutral takes away all the computer technology which is in a car.

Put a good driver behind a car with computers and a car w/o computers and 10/10 he/she is going to have a better chance recovering in the computer aided car.

The Prius top speed is 105 for the first gen and 120 for the second gen.
