Yesterday I went ahead and bought 5 quarts of Royal Purple Sytnthetic 5w-30 oil for my upcoming major tune up. I also had a quart of Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w-30 lying around my garage.

I read the labels on both bottles and decided to first perform a touch test on both oils. Conclusion: they both are different to the feel eventhough both are synthetic oils.

Royal Purple Synthetic Oil: Does not just feel slippery like most oils, but has a soapy feel to it---was unable to feel the surface of the other finger i rubbed against it. Even when i tried cleaning it away gently, there was still some of it on my finger--I really had to clean hard to get off my finger. This probably explained why the label on the oil noted that it clings on the inside of your engine internals even after shutting down your car for a while---which I think is a good thing, especially on cold start ups or cold days.

Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil: Just felt slippery like any other oil. Was able to feel the top layer of my other finger after rubbing together very quickly. probably explains the long wait time for car to warm up when i used to have it in my car.

This weekend will be the true test of the difference I hope to see between Royal Purple Synthetic oil and Mobil 1 Synthetic oil, when I change my oil with Royal Purple.

Mind you, my touch test proves nothing other than mere observation. As you all know, I just have a heightened sense of observation and feel for very small things and changes. I have no control over this--its just who I am. I currently use Mobil EP 1 5w-30 Synthetic oil, and the major advantages i have observed between this oil and the regular Mobil 1 5w-30 Synthetic is that I have a faster warm up time and almost insignficant amount of heat coming from the sides of the car after a 20 - 30 minute regular drive. Perhaps, the test should have been between Mobil 1 EP 5w-30 and Royal Purple.

5 quarts of Royal Purple cost me about $42 while 5 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic oil goes for about $28 at Autozone, and I beleive about $25 at Walmart.

So, I shall report next week on the difference I have observed once my oil is changed to Royal Purple. So, stick around for some more info.

NB

Telcoman, I know I could save the extra money in the 401K , but last i checked, the stock market is speedily moving south. At least My G seems to be moving north in performace everyday.

So, no issues at the urinal.

Good to know.

BTW, you'd have instantly noticed the difference in a taste test.

I don't think issues at the urinal should be the problem, but maybe a test in the stall is in order? Maybe a good idea for someone who wants to lose weight to get that RP in there and line the intestines and bowel.

Better idea -

Let's get modified350z in here - He can do a three-way comparison between Mobil 1 Synthetic, Royal Purple, and his current favorite buttsechs lube.

Funny this came up..

I just bought Royal Purple at Advanced auto parts.

I am changing the oil in a friends G (co worker)

They were out of M1 EP so I said what should I get...

They said well it is on sale right now. I was like what??? ON SALE!

5 Qts of M1 and a M1 Filter for 29.99

And the Royal Purple is the same price.

I got 5 qts of Royal Purple and a M1 108 filter for 29.99 I bought two sets.

I am going to test this in her car and see how it sounds after startup and driving.

Royal Purple really does seem like a better oil and they guy said (Friend I went to HS with big gear head) You can use it in an extended interval just like m1 ep.

He said he read a study that with the M1 filter the royal purple kept the motor better over 30k miles than M1 EP and they only changed the oil twice in the study!

I will report after the oil change this afternoon!

Has anyone tried this yet?

XPR — eXtreme Performance Racing oils are formulated for applications such as racing, modified engines and off-road use. XPR’s high film strength make it exceptionally well-suited for today’s high performance cars and trucks, particularly turbo and supercharged engines and / or engines using a nitrous boost.

XPR produces winning results on the race track and is safe enough to use in your daily commuter car.

Professional engine builders and race teams cite increased horsepower and torque, and longer engine life with the use of Royal Purple and independent tests performed on racing engines show as much as an 80% reduction in wear.

Eh, we gotta keep it exciting around here, right?

RP is supposed to be one of the best. I'm going to be due for an oil change soon, I'll have to check my local AAP to see if they have it on sale as well. I wanted to change over to it during the last oil change, but M1 was on sale and I couldn't pass it up.

They are not the same kind of oil Jacko.

Mobil 1 is not a true synthetic oil. There was a good writeup about this like a year ago, I'll try to find it.

I think you should do more research before you just go ahead and put in RP.

Did some research and nothing bad out there on RP. Seems okay for engines made from 2004 to present day---(this I think includes 2003 and 2004 G engines up to the present day). I think Smockers had a comment on RP on some thread as well. http://forums.g37driver.com/zerothread/353047

Just wait till after you change the oil and look at the dip stick.

The oil is clear when it isn't in high volumes.

You can hardly see it. Really cool and it really quites the motor better than mobil 1 EP..

Dyno = CrapM1 = GoodM1 EP = BetterRP = Best $hit i would spend money on!

so tell me what do you think. is 29.99 a good deal for 5 qts of Royal Purple and a M1 filter?

Yup, it's a good price. I think summit racing charges $7 a quart, so you're saving $5 plus a free filter!!

Thats an awesome price--really nice. That price is even cheaper than 5 quarts of M1 EP. I bought mine 2 nights ago at O'Reilly auto parts for $42 bucks for 5 quarts. Well, it does not matter so long as I get RP in my engine.

I have almost a year before I need to change my oil in the G but I can tell you that I won't be waiting that long

I also just changed the GF's moms oil in her 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7L Hemi

I can't believe that it took 7 qts of oil. but any way I put Royal Purple in there and I really didn't seem to see that much of a difference. The American motors don't really have much valve noise as they only have 2 per cylinder lol. Not sure if the Hemi is a 32v or 16v....

I noticed the difference when I was closer to red line under WOT.

What do you guys think about Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer?

DO NOT ADD ANY STABILIZER OR ADDITIVE TO ROYAL PURPLE OR TO MOBIL 1.

http://forums.g37driver.com/zerothread/353047

As for Lucas fuel system cleaner, it works well with our Gs since it is non-solvent based. But, i wouldn't use it all the time. Good daily cleaner of fuel systems is constant use of Chevron with Techron. I just prefer Chevron with Techron.

I havent. haha. I just changed the oil on my Maxima and the bottle reads to put 1 qt lucas oil per every 4 qts of regluar oil. I did and it seems very smooth. All that I put in was this pretty basic Quaker state oil and the lucas oil. I was just woundring if anyone had even heard of it and what they thought?

Why use Lucas additive and then Quaker oil? Castrol GTX 20W-50, which i have been using since my car turned 100,000 miles, and my car is now 250,000 miles, works excellently. I have never put any oil additive in my little nissan, ever. Cranks right up and travels to anywhere, anytime. it does not burn oil either--no oil loss-- three quarts and a half is all it needs. Every start up I do requires 1 - 4 minutes of warm up time.

really the only reason I put it in was because it was on sale and the store had a demonstration set up that showed how when you add the lucas oil to any engine oil (even synthetics) it made the oil lubricate better I guess. its hard for me to explain without you actually seeing it. Maybe I will go back and take a video of it. haha.

The oil stabilizer worked great on my 96 I30. It helped quiet the engine a lot.

I remember not being able to change my oil on time once and dumping half a bottle of the Lucas and the engine got quiet QUICK.

I wouldn't recommend the stuff on a newer car, but on something older with worn parts, it worked well.
