Can you get a helper to keep it running and you listen for the leak? It shouldn't be hard to find. I would try and locate it before just swapping the EGR. It almost sounds like you forgot to put a gasket on something, or a hose is unhooked. It has to be a pretty bad leak if it won't even stay running.

Honestly it sounds just like my Maxima did when I didn't line the intake gasket back up perfectly. It was just barely off, but it was just enough to create a large vacuum leak and make it run just like that. It got pinched on the inside of the intake where I couldn't see it, so I had to feel around to find it.

I'm so dumb I actually swapped lifters and checked timing marks then swapped back instead of just looking for the leak

The Miata took its rightful spot in the wrenching portion of my garage. I have a turbo charger, roll bar and flying Miata butterfly brace to install!

In my research it is near enough the t25/t28 that are so popular.

TD05H – 18g
Compressor Wheel diameter: 50.5/68
Turbine wheel diameter : 49.1/56

GT28

Compressor Wheel diameter: 54.28 /71.32
Turbine wheel diameter : 45.47 / 52.90

GT25
Compressor Wheel diameter: 42/60
Turbine wheel diameter : 46/53

It was difficult to find the specifications on this turbo

Brand: Trust GReddy
Product : Turbo charger
Model : TD-05H 18G, TD-05SH 18G
Power : 400ps
Max temp : 950C
Compressor wheel
In dia : 50.5 mm
Out dia : 68.0 mm
Turbine wheel
Out dia : 49.1 mm
Ex dia : 56 mm

Sounds like its similar to a 20G, in which case, this should be useful:
so-i-made-you-guys-some-compressor-map- ... 29705.html

If its a 1.8, you'll be ok-ish (still might take a while to spool), but the 1.6 may struggle.

Supposedly someone plotted an EJ20 against the map here:

Even with .4 extra liters of displacement (and what appears to be a metric f*** ton of RPM calculated by the user), they still struggle to utilize the lungs of that turbo.

you could be right. My first step in my turbo kit is to get a megasquirt and run it NA for a while to get some practice using it.

Everything sitting on my car in that picture is a complete Greddy kit for a Honda Prelude with a 2.0 I was able to score it for $200 cash from a kit who really needed the money more than he needed a faster Prelude.

There are a few guys on Miata Turbo running TD05's most of them have 1.8's because people like to swap out 1.6's. The 18G is the next step down from the 20g. Greddy kits use Mitsubishi turbo's but they are not the same as the turbo's Mitsubishi uses on their cars. A 1.6 Honda uses the 16G a 2.0 Honda uses the 18g. Most Honda guys running a 18G are using 370 cc injectors so I look at the fuel needs of a 18G and think it will probably be okay.

The compressor wheel is actually smaller than the T28 by 4-3 mm and the turbine wheel is only 3mm larger.

I'm dead set on using it if it doesn't spool quickly I may try a T25. I'm into the car for $998 with it running. I scored the turbo for $200, I will probably buy someones used MS2 when they upgrade to a MS3 I missed out on a local one for $450 earlier this year. The roll bar and butterfly brace are used and I scored them for $150! I still need to put some FM end links and a set of Raceland coilovers and then I will have a reasonably quick Miata for under $2000.

That is my goal.

Here is a Greddy turbo spec sheet

The 20G is only available as a TD06 and a bit bigger on the turbine wheel. I would not attempt a 20G on the 1.8 or 1.6.

TD06 20g
Compressor Wheel diameter: 52.6/68
Turbine wheel diameter : 55.3/65
