Here is what I've found so far after google searching and going throw 20 pages or so of the CA forum for information:

^^Custom expensive manifolds (will they ever get made )

So basically the options are hope for one of the two manifolds that have been posted about on here, buy an eBay top mount and reinforce it and hope it doesn't play tag with the BMC/lines/strut tower bar, have a shop make me one, or make my own..

I'm looking for feedback of people who have used the eBay manifolds and ones that have made their own. its obviously a daunting task that requires skill to make your own, but im very interested in any tips/advice on making one that'll fit, and work good.

for the eBay manifolds, I remember Dee saying something bad about them, but couldn't find the thread. any tips/ways to get one to work without BMC/lines/strut bar interference? Call me stupid, but so far i'm liking CXRacing, so if i got one it'd be that one.

Thanks everyone. There isn't alot of info on the top mount manifolds out there that I could find. Most use a bottom mount manifold and the ones that do use top mount dont have alot of pics of the setup installed or at all, so top mount pics would be REALLY cool

Well I have a custom top mount manifold that I made. It really isnt that hard. Im sure your capable of making one. The thing I like about making your own is A) Its cheaper, B) You can chose where your turbo sits, C) Because I trust my work over ebay manifolds, and I can make it pretty beefy. Some Ebay turbo flanges are ok though, I picked one up from a place that does cnc flanges for all kinds of stuff and it turned out to be a really good quality flange. I basically had no choice but to make my own since I run the big holset h1c with a 21cm^2 housing and the turbo would hit with some of the other manifoilds. (Btw, yes i know that housing is WAY to big, its only going to be on there untill I find a 12cm^2 housing in good shape, I dont expect to spool it until about 6000rpm).

Basically, if your up for it....build your own. Ebay manifolds are more prone to crack, and I just cant justify spending as much money as some people spend on manifolds. The upper price manifolds tend to be great quality (ie fullrace), but if I can make my own I usually will.

You got any pictures of your manifold? What material did you use? What type of welding? The furthest I got w/ welding was to MIG and it was easy as pie.

I wont be able to get pics of the manifold. I go to school in the twin cities and my engine is at my parents house. I like to tig weld if its available, but mig is fine as long as you dont glob welds. Here is a link that should be helpfull to you. http://sdsefi.com/techheader.htm the material they use is also listed in that link. You should do some research on manifold design theory too, it really is some interesting stuff (for car nerds).

Thank you Frankenfourty, thats some good reading right there. I'll do a bit of research on manifold design theory this week too, since i have nothing else to do.

What diameter tubes did would one recommend?

I just try to get is as close to the port size of the head. My theory is that if you go much bigger than the port, you lose pressure. But if you go too small you lose volume. I would measure the port and get piping that is a little bit bigger so you dont lose pressure but you have less restriction. Now this is just my theory and it is possible that my understanding of intake manifold design is making me draw the wrong conclusions on exhaust manifold design. Im sure someone else will chime in and give you more insight than I can.

I currently run a ebay top mount manifold, and yes it has cracked once right by the collector. I just welded it back up and seems to be fine now. But as far as fitting I havent had any issues with it at all. I am at school right now but I can post some pictures when I get home tonight.

The manifold on my ca18det is custom made log style... The generic equal length top mount that was on the car kept cracking even after bracing was added, etc.

Mine looks the same. Chink ebay manifold + ebay T3/T4 tulbo. Plus, I have a stock heat shield, so the turbine housing and the heat shield plate make a nice, annoying rattling sound at idle.

So, I guess "chink" is derogatory? Didn't know, I thought it was just short for Chinese, like Jap for Japanese, which, I guess, is derogatory as well, then?

Well, I apologize to the Chinese members of this forum.I wonder how long this turbo your fellow countrymen made lasts .

This is my third cheap manifold it was from god speed I heat wrapped her and a week later on the dyno the waste gate cracked all the way off. This is my old set up from last year. My car is having a custom front mount turbo manifold made right now. The collector is from AFI Turbo made out of schedule 40 1 1/2 inch piping. Flange from dumper king Australia . All the primary piping will be schedule 10 1 1/2 inch piping . Everything is going to be TIG Welded. The shop guarentee's it against cracking for life. V-Band 44 and V-band Turbo collector.
