Sorry guys, I forgot to specify the time line. We are going right after Carlisle, while we are in the area. So May 16-18. Thanks for all the ideas. Our list will largely depend on Ozzie and what he wants to see. It's a lot easier for Greg and I to make a return trip than it would be for him. I would love to have about 10 days to do a no-rush exploration though. Yeah, I'm a history buff/nerd. get over it.

Gah!! Don't put it on me!
I know I won't be able to see everything, but will be happy with whatever we can cram in.
I would much rather be led around, than demand to see x, y, z.
If I had to list anything in particular, it would be to see the declaration of independance, and the Lincoln memorial.
Anything else we can fit in is a bonus.

I slid down the giant marble rails to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. That was pretty fun.

EDIT: Upon googling for verification, it wasn't the Lincoln Memorial, but some other memorial that had giant-as* marble slabs on the edges of the steps.

If I head to Carlisle this year, I may stop through. Otherwise, I really don't have much reason to step foot in MD again...

Did anyone get "Don't get shot".

And if Becky/Greg are that close I would expect a trip to NC.

My family did a little escape weekend down in DC a few years ago. Such a great place.
We stayed in the DuPont Circle area. A short walk to the Metro subway, which is clean, cheap, and easy.

For Touristy stuff, it is hard to beat the Smithsonium. The Air and Space is fun and among the more popular, but there are several other Smithsonium buildings and museums besides Air and Space. Just pick a topic. If you want to tour the White House, better sign up now.

The National Postal Museum is near historic Union Station (big grand passenger train terminal+ mall. I was at the museum as an industry rep when they issued their railroad stamp a few years back. Cool place.

Our visit included the Washington Monument, Lincoln memorial, the refecting pool (remember the anti war speech scene from Forrest Gump?), the Vietnam Vet memorial , the national zoo, Capital building. there's also Library of Congress, There's so much to see/do down there.

For topless entertainment er good food, I understand the Crystal City restaurant is still operating. :chuckle:

While going over our trip itinerary, I realized that I had not booked a hotel room for our stay. ( Yeah, I know, I'm a dumbass.) Any recommendations for a hotel? Preferably in a non-homicidal part of town? Thanks! :)

When Holli & I went a couple of years ago we stayed at the Washington Court Hotel. Great hotel that's within walking distance of The Hill, with a few decent places to eat nearby and a couple of the hop-on/hop-off bus stops.

Two thumbs up. :dblthumb:

That looks beautiful, but I really don't want to shell out $300-$400/ night. Must be their busy season. :ohno:

Our last vacation to DC we stayed at the Embassy Suites near duPont Circle. Great place, big suites, nice neighborhood, (no gunfire while we were there)reasonably priced, free made to order breakfast, nice happy hour (burp), big pool, indoor parking, and important = walking distance to the Metro (excellent subway), which can take you literally everywhere. You don't want to use your car to sightsee there.

I'm sure I already mentioned the awesomeness that is the Space and Air museum in Chantilly, VA:
http://www.nasm.si.edu/museum/udvarhazy/
:D It's worth the drive out (BECAUSE THERE IS A CONCORDE..oh and a unused space shuttle), the museum in town pales in comparison.

Checked this one. Booked the days we will be there.

Sigh.

For you locals, will the cherry trees at the mall still be in bloom at this time? Just curious, I always thought that would be cool to see.

Go to DC and do what you need to do then come to Baltimore and see the Ghetto and see where "The Wire" was filmed. Maybe take home a bullet or 2.

Bring oxygen as well....

The inner harbor is nice though. The aquarium is cool and they have that civil war ship too. At least they did the last time I was there.
