i like the use the SAFC as a monitoring device for trouble shooting. it does wonders.

anyways wow, i'm surprised that they tune the timing that conservative where i can run a 8.5:1 map on stock comp. well i'll take your word for it since you've personally experienced it.

thanks alot.

Well...here's the #'s:

Stock ECU gives about ~28 degrees total timing at WOT.

JWT gives about 17 degrees total timing as a MAXIMUM for a 9.5:1 program.

Use .75 degrees retard for every PSI, and at 12psi, you'll need 9 degrees of timing retard.

So 28 - 9 = 19 total timing.

JWT is still 2 degrees under that. (and actually, I wouldn't start retarding according tot hat formula until maybe 2psi, so 20 total timing is more like what I'd want for 12psi).

I run JWT/50lb/Cobra MAF and have the base timing at 22 BTDC to make up for the conservative nature of the ECU.

That's all the low-compression program is doing from what I understand...a couple more degrees across the board.

so with 17 degree timing is for what program? what program are you running now? and how many degrees timing is ideal for 17 psi? since that is my ultimate goal.

17 is for the high-comp program...the more aggressive low-comp program should have a degree or 2 more across the board.

But you can also immitate that by advancing the base timing.

As for 17psi...the rule of thumb I post above is probvably good as a start, but for higher power, it needs to be a little more scientific...I dunno.

Guys have done +400rwhp and +25psi with the regular 72lb program, so I think you'll be oK with that at 17psi.

so according to that formula i need 15.25 degrees of total timing. i see so lets assume that the low comp program runs a 19 degree total advance i need to retard it another 3.75 degrees.

gotcha.

but what do you mean by regular 72 lb program? that means 8.5:1 comp program?

thanks.

Good call...I was only trying to differentiate between a low-comp and high-comp...but I guess there's no 9.5:1 program for the KA with 72lb'ers. My bad...

That being said, I'd would leave the base timing stock (20) for now, and keep the boost under 15.

People have done that...350rwhp or less...on a stock block.

Once you get the built block, leave the base timing stock at 20 unless JWT tells you so...the built motor could take a tiny bit of detonation and not be affected at all.

More talk on JWT...

Back on topic, glad to see you make it to the track. I've never taken my car but we have similar power. I'm sure I'll do a pass when I can max out my 550s...

My car was 2800 in my NA days, w/ sunroof & spare tire. Haven't weighed it recently, those damn kouki headlights weigh a ton compared to the zenkis.

Once I found out the spare tire is useless w/ Z32 brakes all-around, I tossed it.

Keep me updated if you're gonna hit Sebring or GIR anytime soon. We should hook-up!

Congratz on the runs, we are now equal, haha. Although you still have a lot of weight loss to go through since mine sits at 2580 with full interior.
My S14 weighs circa 2460 lbs. w/ 4-pt. NASA spec roll bar

Get some weight out of that lard bucket!

Panoz..."Track Days".

Unfortunately for me, they are sticking me in C-group (instructor lead) b/c I haven't run RA with Panoz before...

If I could jump to B, I could run Sunday with a couple friends of mine...sucks.

Might you be running? Right now, the roster is half full form what they tell me....

$225 Sat, $325 Sun.

You can sign up for Sat in C and Sun in B - in fact, that's exactly what I did last summer. Unless you royally f*** something up in C (spin or put 4 wheels off the track), they will let you run in B on Sun.

Yeah, but I only wanna run Sunday B...

And I can only do one day. So I'm stuck with Sat C for this trip...

Only reason I ***** is b/c I know a few guys running in B, and I have more track experience than them, and typically out-lap them at local road course events.

(BTW, I had to change my date to March 5th, still Saturday C group.)
