Alright heres the deal, ive got a Redtop SR20DET with new fuel pump, FMIC, Ive been runing stock PSI, no boost controler, last night it was boosting fine at 7, but today, it boost all the way to 14 PSI, I have a feeling I may be running dangerously rich at High RPM so any help would be good, I do have the wastegate hooked up to the nipple on my hotpipe.

Your stock wastegate may be stuck closed. Unfortunately the only way to test this is to take your dump pipe off and apply pressure to the wastegate and see when it opens(if at all). You may just have to replace the wastegate.

Why would you have to take the dump pipe off? You can see the arm/flap door lever move. I have tested an actuator off the car with air like that though.

If you have an air compressor you can just regulate it down to like 20psi and see if it is opening.

then why does it open up at 13.5 PSI, it holds it, like I have a boost controler on.

alright, the wastegate is opening up just fine, but I dont know what PSI, its less than 20 but I dont have a regulator, does anyone else have any ideas befor I go out and buy a regulator. There is some writing on the wastegate actuator, it says somthing about do not use on vehicles not intended for.

I had the same problem after i upgraded to a FMIC on my redtop 180sx. And i hit 1.4 bar of boost which was way to high. I went back to the shop and was dumbfounded. I started looking at all of my vacume lines and noticed that my wastegate was just running open lol. So i hooked up a line to it and got consistant .7 bar boost. Deffently something to do with the wastegate.

This is off the topic but when i took off the manifold/turbo for new gaskets i saw that my turbo has a .86 a/r and the stock t25 on redtops is .80 a/r. Also my turbo "whines" while under boost. Does anyone know what turbo is in my car lol.

my wastegate is hooked up, and its not stuck closed, I even changed lines incase the original was leaking or clogged, and it didnt chang anything, Im wondering if anyone has a picture of thier wastegate actuator, mine has a sticker on the top with a bunch or writing. Are there any companys that make aftermarket wastegate actuators?

You could have a ported T25 housing.

There are adjustable wastegate setups, like the HKS. Does it looks like yours is?

no, it looks like a stock wastegate, but there is a sticker on the top of it saying not to use on engines other than specified by the manufacturer and some other stuff.

its been awile since Ive worried about it, the car is still over boosting but it usualy hangs around 11, occansionaly jumping to 15, in whick case I just drive like an old guy, I was going to buy a wategate from a guy at Elite Autosport here in MN but he wanted to sell me the whole turbo, I just need the wastgate, and Im really tired of eagle eyeing my boost gauge every time Im on it.

Do you have an air compressor and regulator where you can apply a certain amount of pressure to see if it opens? That's usually how a t25 would behave when the wastegate is disconnected. Although i bet mine would spike to 17-18 psi if left disconnected.

well, I ordered a HKS .8 bar wastegate actuator, it works great, the turbo spools so much better and it holds between 11 and 12 psi perfectly, I love it. Id love to check your car out somtime colton, do you drive it to work often?

Sounds like a RNN14 GTiR turbocharger. It's a T28 with a bigger housing than the Silvia turbos, but I recall the hotside being smaller.
