I am the proud owner of red G35 coupe. I have been thinking of gettign the windows tinted, but I really don't want to detract from the beauty of the car. Plus, I want people to see who is driving such a beautiful car. The Indiana law only allows for 30% for the side and rear, so I wouldn't go over that. 30% should allow you to identify the person in the car.

So, what do you guys and gals think? Should I go 30% or lower or no tint at all.

30% is the law...hmm in florida the suvs and vans come out of the factory with 15%...maybe they do it different there but 30% seems a little to light to me...might not even be worth it unless you go to 15%.

I'm having the same dilemma with my Q. It's a Boysenberry Koolaid red as BIONIC calls it and I 'm debating on a 35% smoke tint or platinum which is really classy looking.

OLU40-

I won't get into whether Platinum tint looks good, but beware any tint that is metallic. The thin foil will interfere with your V1's rear antenna. All NY/NJ drivers need all the help they can get, there seems to be a radar or laser unit around every corner.

Tint it! It would look PIMP even if it is 30%. Like you said it doesn't hurt to see in it and see who is driving. You do want the tint to help out on inside heat.

I would go with a metallic tint so that it doesn't turn colors like turn purple with age but I did not know about the antenna issue fxjackso brought up. I would definetely check into that.

You have to tint it though, it would look even sweeter than it does already.

Just my opinion.

California law allows upto 90% on both rear passenger windows, but a maximum of 30% on front driver and passenger windows (and this has to include the factory tinting in the glass characteristics). Nothing is allowed on front windshield except for a narrow band across the top, if it meets certain distance and angle criterion from the driver seat. The California DMV web site has details!

For my son (he has some sunlight sensitivity) I have 90% on rear side windows and rear windshield glass. In retrospect, I overdid the rear windshield glass ... makes it a bit tough for my wife to drive my car at night. So, in her car, we did 30% on rear windshield glass, 90% on rear side windows and 30% on front side windows and a narrow 3" band across the top of the front windshield.

I agree with J-Owner - the tinting keeps the cars cooler in the sun! Get it professionally done and it will last a long time. I had my Q done over two years ago and there isn't a single bubble in it yet.

I also agree with fxjackso in that my Valentine 1 rear-facing radar sensitivity is somewhat reduced (from what I can tell), even though I did not use metallic tint - a small trade-off for keeping sun off my son. :)

What color is the interior of your G? I'd go with a bronze tint if it's a tan interior or grey with black or grey interior. In any case I'd defintately go with tint! I even tinted the windows on my truck that I only drive occasionally.

I have the black/dark grey combo. I had to tint the windos and I think it really helps the look of my Q.

OLUs Q looks very, very fimiliar!!!!

If you are concerned on how it will look..... Go out and get some of that static cling tint at walmart..... Stick it on, and if you like it, get it done.... if not, its no huge loss...... Its maybe $5 for a roll, and you might need 2 rolls.....

If nothing else you'll get a true appreciation of how much of a bit%* window tint installation is! I did DIY tint on my truck, and although the final product was pretty good I wasted two rolls, about 8 hours, and a lot of steam (coming from my ears)!

I'll replace a driveshaft, rebuild brakes, and reseal rocker covers DIY, but when it comes to tint I'll be using a professional from now on...

I have the tan interior, or whatever the actual name of it is, I can't seem to remember right now.

Thanks for all the advice and info. It sounds like everyone thinks I should go ahead and tint it. I like the idea of trying the static tint first just to see how it looks. I will probably give that a try first.

Thats what I am going to do to my car........... A friend of mine bought some for his grand dam and it looks just as good as professional tint...... Unfortunately, he doesnt keep up with it so it has bubbles around the edges..... hardly noticeable.....

When you put it on, make sure you put soapy water on the window so you can move it around........

Why is it that if I dont like how a car looks, it always looks good in a real-world photo or in person? Something wrong with those Infiniti photo shoots... I should send them to my photographer!

Oh and nice ride, Jason! I especially like the first photo; that particular angle shows off the sporty profile of the new Q.

Do not do any custom job yourself. It won't turn out right no matter how hard/long you work on it. Take it to a reputable shop, guaranteed to have no bubbles and will come out looking great.

If you want to keep the interior looking good as long as possible, then you should pay for the best solar tint you can find.

I have two layers of tint. The side windows are at 20% and the rear window is probably at 5%.

I have had the car in Dallas for over 5 years and the interior still looks new. Now this is on a car w/ 165k.

Also, tint has some other uses. I grew up in NY. When a car has tint on it, people are a bit more cautious around it. Mostly due to apprehension about what kind of crazed lunatic is behind the wheel and how many other fellow nutcases are with him.

The only drawbacks are reduced vision at night ( mostly when backing up, I just open the windows) and undue attention from the police (only if its too dark or you live in a state where the cops act like the Gestapo).

Ryan,Tint it man. The interior color is called willow. I'm trying to keep my car as low profile as possible. Crome rims and tinted windows will draw way to much attention to an already "lookie, lookie' car. Some of the natives in my town seem a little jealous. However, I'm also thinking about tinting the windows but not too dark.I'm going to research the ziebart tint and see what thats about.Kev...

UPDATE:

I'm getting my tint removed and some new stuff from Huper Optik installed. It's called Huper Drei (don't know what that means) but it's a $700 job (and of course I won't be paying anywhere NEAR that:D).

It is THE BEST stuff available on the market anywhere. Period.

Check it out at http://www.huperoptik.com .

So loosely translated, this is "Super Three"? I don't "spraken the deutsche". :(

Do a search on the site for a local installer - If this doesn't help, let me know. My guy may know someone.

I can't wait!!! :fruit
