In early 2007, a thread was posted in the classifieds entitled, "Desperation Sale...first 6k takes it." The car was this beautiful blue JDM 'vert with "nismo" seats and a vertex body kit. Well, it was I who went 9 hours to Detroit, MI to buy the car.
This car was no beauty, in all reality, it was on its way to being absolute junk! After seeing the car in person I got this really really bad feeling in my gut. I had just driven 9 hours to buy a car that was nothing like what was described in the thread. It had many many severe rust spots, the body kit was busted, the interior was trashed all but the seats, the tires were bald, the wheels were damaged, the "harnesses" were like something you would buy at the Dollar Store and had fake nismo pads to cover up the spider stitched into their 1.5" wide seat belt straps. You haven't seen a paint job this horrible. The intercooler was mounted using exhaust hangers, the piping was 2" home-made steel pipe painted rice-tastic blue, the turbo was blown, the exhaust was home made, rusty, and consisted of a poorly stick welded straight pipe with a fart can on the end....This car was ROUGH to say the very least. After a very very long conversation with him and his parents, I purchased the car for 6k and literally cleaned him out of everything he owned 240sx related just to feel like I wasn't getting as badly ripped off, even though I was anyway.
So, I got the car back to Kentucky and began the disassembly. This lead to more disassembly, and more, and more. The deeper and deeper we got into the car the worse it got. Literally every single tiny thing that had been "modified" on the car had been "ninja rigged" for lack of a better word. I might has well of built this car from scratch, and I do mean scratch. The swap had to be redone, the front end had to be taken off and reassembled, I mean, I rebuilt the ENTIRE CAR!! (along with the help of some good friends) One full year after buying the car, I finally got to start it. I personally spent upwards of $7000 on top of purchasing the car to salvage the thing!
Moral of the story, do not buy cars from out of town based on trust in the owner. Do your homework, ask very detailed questions, ask for close-up detailed pictures, and never pay full price for day old pizza, if you know what I mean. Pictures of the car before, during and after will be added soon! It is hardly recognizable!
