I have an all stock 93 convert. Am thinking of going plus 1 on the wheels with 16"x 7 offset 38 ASA AR1 wheels from the tirerack with 215-50-16 tires. The queston is, will this look nice with out having to go through the expense of coilovers? I'm hoping the wider wheels and same diameter will fill the fenders visually better. Any thoughts??

You will still have some wheel gap on that setup, but how it looks is completely subjective.. everyone has their own opinion.

I would recommend going with an aftermarket shock and strut suspension if you don't want to spend the money on coilovers. You can find used suspension setups for a couple hundred dollars including shipping.

Not only will the car look better, but it wil handle and perform better as well..

I agree Eikon. I think too many people think the only way to lower a car is with coilovers and having to spend big bucks on a suspension, that they will probably never use to it's full potential anyway. And I doubt most of the Verts will see any competive track time either. A decent strut and good spring will do wonders for most and probably give them a feel if coilovers are even needed. Just my thoughts.. any long time vert owners care to share??

Put the wheels on, and then decide for yourself.

I'm running KYB GR2 struts and Dropzone springs on my 93 vert and like them very well! 17x7.5" rims with 215/45/17 tires. this combination seems to work well for me.It's all about your own personel likes.

i think adjustable struts and lowering springs are THE WAY TO GO for a daily driven car. no one should use coilovers unless 1) you track your car often, 2) you have a show car, or 3) you got a GREAT deal. coilovers are over-hyped, especially in our drift crazy community. a good strut/spring combo should run you under $500 (last time i was shopping around for them) - with the money you'd save versus buying coilovers, get a new top or some new carpet or a turbo or something.

I ran into this thread when I was doing research on strut and spring combo.

http://www.nicoclub.com/s13-24....html

If you add up all the prices for the parts, it comes out to be about $741. I didn't feel comfortable putting used suspension parts on my car. Struts and springs are the backbone of your suspension upgrade. Megan street coilovers are under $900 shipped, so I was looking at Megan. Read some reviews and moved on to KTS($1100), but finally ended up getting Stance GR+ Pro under $1300 shipped. At this point, I'm pretty sure that I would have regreted if I had gotten spring and strut combo. I love the adjustbility and convenience of coilovers. Road is pretty good around where I live, so spring and strut combo would have been too high for me. I also like to take corners hard. Ride was way more comfortable than I expected. This new set of coilovers made me fall in love with my car all over again. These days companies are developing aftermarket parts for 240s like crazy, so quality is really good. You can actually DD good quality coilovers with no problem.

I picked up a set of KYB AGX Struts and Eibach sportline springs for $250 shipped. Used of course... but they are in nice shape and had apparently only 10k miles on them.

I don't have an issue with used parts. Of course I don't take my car to the racetrack and I don't daily drive it.. so I don't need ultra high performance nor great longevity.

It all depends on what your needs are for your car.

Coilovers are fantastic! I'd never talk someone out of buying a set. They are a great package of performance, adjustability and reliability for a pretty reasonable price. But.. the fact of the matter is that most 240 owners don't need them.

Loveless just went from AGX to GR+ Pro... Seems like he's happy. I don't know it was like night and day difference to me. Anyone who's interested in buying new struts and springs. I strongly recommend drive someone else's car with a good set of coilovers installed.

$741 is a bit high... you can get a new set of AGXs on Ebay for $360 shipped and then add whatever springs you want.

Used springs are fine. Used shocks/struts is up to your own personal taste. If they are low mileage and adult owned, I don't see any issues.

The real issue is do you get 2x - 3x the value out of paying 2x -3x more for coilovers? The answer is different for everyone.

I prefer to have the handling of a lowered car more than the look of it. At stock height it feels like a boat (I've been used to lowered coupes for years).

I put $480 shipped for Tanabe springs and Ticiko shocks, looks good so far (installed today). Will have pics when tires are in to put on new wheels, probably this weekend.

I would take care of it ASAP. Ding on the fender is an eye sore on such a beautiful car.

Yeah, I really need to get the Dent DR on that one! The wheels are Focal 17X7.5 w 43mm offset.

Thanks for the positive comments, I've only had the car for about 3 wks now but I will be keeping it and it does have a few imperfections I need to deal with.Waiting for the temps to get above 40deg for a few days, have to do all my work outside.
