Hey guys, i decided to take the ugly fabric off of my doorpanels today. It was a faily easy task, and in all it took a little less than an hour.

Heres how you do it.

Good write-up! It was posted before though, but I cant bring up a search parameter that does this one justice.

Anyway, it might look more acceptable if your stretched some black leather on that panel. Mostly because the door you have shown looks like an Eclipse door now. Not my favorite...

As for the glue leftover when you remove the cloth, might I suggest some of this?

WOW! That looks a lot nicer. I may think about doing that now. I didn't realize it would be so easy. I have a question on the carpeting in the car. Would you recommend staining it or just replacing it since it's the original?

2BN, are you sure theres another? I tried to search and couldnt find one. As for the goo-gone, i do have some of that.. and it works wonders, but the glue doesnt need anything that strong

I only posted it because alcohol can dissolve some plastics and make them crack later on. I believe goo-gone makes a special solvent that does not react with plastic...

googone works wonders. i used it to help remove the nasty sticky tar sections from my floorboard.

I don't know everyone had adhesive stick on after you pull the material. I just yanked mine off no worries.

Oh, and hang onto the fabric if you want to recover the doors. The old material makes a great pattern for the new material.

True, rico. I wish I hadn't thrown mine out in such a hurry.

If anyone else takes that stuff off, do NICO a favor and get a template made! That'd be a name-change for sure. :

I've been thinking about dying or painting the fabric black. Has anyone done that? I'm afraid that the door panel might be weaker and easier to crack where the fabric used to be, since it's the part where people rest their arms.

i dont think its really that much weaker, but im sure you could prob. dye the fabric black, but since i just simply hate the look of tweed i didnt consider doing that

tx- i know what you mean about the holes, but im just gonna put up with 'em for a while... i mean, at least theyre not huge or anything

oh man, i guess i should have told you about those holes, hell, i completely forgot all about them.i was thinkin about layin more vynol down, but if you look at the shape of the original material, it had to have been heat treated to get into that form. i just sayed forget it, looks good enough for me.

aw hell ya man, but my power is still recovering from when i took my autometer and AEM gauges off from the previous owner

vroom, thats exactly how i feel about the holes, and dont sweat it bout not mentioning them. The way i look at it the panels look a whole hell of a lot better now and i can make due with some small holes

thanks guys, i only hope this helps you in the future

Ehh did this to both of my cars a LONG time ago.. it should only take you about 5minutes to do.. mine did not leave any glue or crap behind so basicly I just yanked them off and that was that.
