I have an '09 Rogue S & for some reason, the orange tire pressure warning light started coming on several mos after I bought my car. My dad takes care of the cars in our household, so he checked it & I think he had to add some air & the warning light went off, but it's come on several times since then every month or two at random times & a couple of times, it went on, then off later in the day & I didn't even do anything to the tires. The car's always driven just fine.

I need to mention about this the next time I go to the dealership for the maintenance check-up.

Is this just some kind of short circuit where the warning light panel is?

Then, today was the 1st time I noticed the red warning light went on for several min, then off, then on again for my seat belt not being on, BUT I was wearing my seat belt.

Hi there, at least 2 threads already exist on this topic, please see the FAQ glossary or use the search function prior to creating a new topic, chances are your topic already exists.

It sounds like you've got a problem with your TPMS, as the tolerances are not that narrow and the light should only go on if your tire pressure drops significantly, the exact value is listed in your Owner's manual, I believe it's well below 30 psi. I'd recommend reading that section, and here's links to two existing TPMS threads on this forum:

. Anyway we have been having a long cold spell here in Virginia lately, started before Christimas - that is about the time my TP warning light appeared on the dash. I read all the threads here and was aware that I mostly likely needed to add air. Well I never really got the chance to check or inflate the tires since the cold weather but for the last few days the weather has taken a turn for the better - weather reached 60 F. today - ahh spring . Any way while driving yesterday I noticed the TP warning light had went off? I never touched the tires - could it be that the TP sensors are subject to the cold and it is not the tire that is actual low? I wish I checked the presures before so I wouldn't have known - but then I would probable have added air like everyone else. Originial my tires we set at 37 psi by dealer - I will try to check later today - before I drive - and post what they are now. (they never looked or felt low either and I felt very safe to operate the vehicle).

Sorry to post here - I looked at the other 2 threads you listed and they hadn't had much activity - any way if you need to move me - do so

Since pressure in a close space is related to the temperature, yes.The sensors are not really precise and can drift with time. In my opinion, they should have rated them lower than the operating pressure to catch only the punctures (something like 20 psi if operating pressure is 33).

That is why so many people, me included, call this system "the idiot light" as it doesn't bring anything to safety and just troubles to the owners. But since it is in the regulations, manufacturers have to install this.

For all those who have problems or get annoyed with the TPMS light, then jus use NITRO and not regular air. We use Nitrogen on all our new cars we get in during our PDI's (pre delivery inspection). It works great and all our customers are happy that they dont have to constantly check their air as Nitrogen will not fluctuate. If the tire light comes on, it usually means you got a nail/object in your tire or losing it thru the valve stem. The only time you will have a problem with the TPMS is when the light is "FLASHING" and not just solid upon engine startup.

OK, my orange tire pressure warning light has been on solidly for the last 2 wks now. I just haven't gotten around to checking the tires again, but it's driven just fine all this time.

Also, this is the 2nd time today that my red seat belt light has come on & off a couple times.

Is the tire light solid upon start up? If it blinks for a couple seconds after you have started your car, then its more then likely a sensor issue. If its solid, then there's a possible chance your tires are low. I did have a solid TPMS light today at work (2007 Pathfinder) and it was a faulty sensor. The rear left wheel would not accept the TPMS reprogram. Replaced that sensor, reprogrammed and it shut off the light. Ok, here is how to check it on your own:

Tools = Tire Pressure Gauge, Air chuck & Air supply (obvious, duh)

Leave your key in the ON POSITION but dont turn on the engine. Fill all tires up to 36lbs of air. I do 40lbs and then jus drop it to make sure that im good on the pressures. Once all your pressures are equal, check the tire light. It should have turned off if they key is in the ON position. If it didnt turn off, drive above 16mph steadily for about 1-2 miles. If it dont turn off, its more then likely a TPMS sensor issue (Low Battery Voltage, Pressure Data Error or No Data) and your dealership should be able to fix it.

Wow, thanks a lot for the procedure, that will help a lot of people with this intermittent error.

Should be put in the FAQ.
