Both the door placard and owners manual state 33psi as the recommended inflation pressure, not 38psi. Maybe there was some dirt on yours?
Im pretty sure it said 38. and the rest of my tires that wasnt low was at about 37. My book states that the Max is 44. I have the 18inch rims...does that make a difference?

Ah, you got me on that one! The 18" wheel configuration with AWD does indeed use 38psi. The rest of the Rogue models/trims use 33psi.

Owners Manual Pg 9-7:
WHEELS AND TIRES

TIRES
P215/70R16 99H, 33 psi (230kPa)
P225/60R17 98H, 33 psi (230kPa)
P225/55R18 97V, 33 psi (230kPa)*1, 38 psi (260kPa)*2

*1: 2WD
*2: AWD

Nice, I was about to go schedule myself an appointment for the eye doctor.

The nitrogen filled tires are no better than air filled. This is a rip off kinda like front loading washing machines (just a way to take our money with no measurable improvement). I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata with nitrogen and have had 3 occasions of the TPMS light illuminating due to varying temps (dealer said this wouldn't happen with nitrogen). Plus you CAN NOT find nitrogen anywhere, self serve. We have gone from 70 degrees 1 week ago to 20 tonight to a predicted 70 this weekend.

I find it very funny that my mom's 2008 Chevrolet Impala has the ability to tell exactly how much air is in EACH tire by pressing a button for instant PSI!!! No gauge needed. How wonderful that would be in 20 degree weather when I'm thinking I'm having a flat only to realize I'm 1 pound low. Hence the name: Idiot light.

crayb,

Don't forget that the TPMS sensors measure absolute pressure (referenced to sea level). Your hand held gauge measures relative pressure (referenced to the air pressure outside the tire). As you climb above sea level the atmospheric pressure changes and the TPMS will actually read LOWER than a relative pressure gauge (assuming you did not add/release air).

Using the TPMS sensors is not a good method of checking tire pressure. You could easily over-inflate the tires (albeit slightly).

Use an accurate tire gauge.

The effects of temperature, altitude, and air loss over time is described in the TPMS thread:

I recently replaced the stock tires on my '08, and had hoped that the TPMS light would stay off with the new tires, well, it's not.

My light has been on more than it's been off!

I hate that system.

/ 24k miles, Avid TRZs much quieter than stock.

1) What altitude do you live at? ie. Sea level, or way up in the mountains? The TPMS sensors are affected by altitude and read 1psi low for every 1800ft above sea level.

2) Are you checking your tire pressures first thing in the morning before driving and in the shade (no direct sun)? Tire pressure can rise by 4psi or more after a short drive. Tire pressure also changes by 0.6psi for every 10 degF drop in temperature.

3) Are you using a good tire pressure gauge? Have you tried another one? The gauges on many gas station air pumps are notoriously inaccurate.

All of these factors will affect whether the TPMS sensor light comes on or not. Let us know and perhaps we can help you figure this out.

I'd have to call it pretty much sea level, my house is about 210 ft above, local airport 288 ft.

I do not routinely check the pressures, generally I'll just look at the tires for appearance of any being low.

I'll stop being lazy and put a gauge to them next time they come on, I have a few different ones, I trust my round dial type the best.

I had the car in the shop for the door handle fix on the 27th and had them check the pressures (since the light was on) while it was there, the light has been off since then , almost 2 weeks now, could have been break-in of the new tires.

With the old tires, several times, on long trips I had the light would come on while cruising down the highway 65-75mph, only to turn back off a few minutes later, different trips, usually only once during the trip. February I-95 Maine - Rhode Island was one that I recall, summer time up Rt-3 through Augusta was another, just really random. Totally destroying any faith in the system.

The TPM warning light has come on everyday for the last week. It blinks for one min. then eather goes out or stays on steady for a miniute or so and then goes off. it only happens on highway speeds and happens about once a day. when the light blinks first it is picking up a problem in the system like a moniter going bad not a low tire. I had this problem a year and a half ago and they had to replace a sensor. As my Rogue now has 70,000 miles and is out of regular warrenty does anyone know if my nissan gold extended warrenty would cover a bad TPM sensor or reciever. If not I may just want to live with this as the moniter with instillation and testing would probly be around $250.00 and the system is terrible and problematic.

It sounds like you have a problem with the sensor. It might be a simple leak from the sensor but it has to be replaced. About the coverage at this mileage you'll have to check with the dealer.

went for my first car check up yesterday, and it turns out my tire pressure sensor was bad.....it was replaced. The light was coming back one days after filling the tire with air each time.
