Listening to a few of you guys go on and on about tire pressure bored the crap out of me, and made me wonder about your mental status. But Now I think you might be on to something lol. This site shows the difference of tire tread impact with 35 psi, 30 psi, and 25 psi in standing water. Pretty interesting.

Correct tire fill pressure has everything to do with best wear, optimum performance and safety. Not too boring if you want that to be the only part of your car in contact with the road.

Tire Rack does good research and work!

Here is an earlier post that I did on their tread-depth research and water! A good - and scary - view too. I try to change my tires at about 3/32 as a result (although here in NorCal, the amount of rainfall is pretty low most of the year).

I am glad to see that you have come around to realize the importance of proper tires and the maintenance required to keep them at their optimum performance. It is not hard given your car monitors tire pressure without much work.

The basic needs are simple,

Research the proper, not cheapest, tire for your driving needs.

Keep them inflated, I check them weekly but I am really ocd about it.

Rotate them side to side as well as front to back at every other oil change.

Always make sure they are dynamically balanced not just statically.

Personally I like to balance them whenever rotating.

Alignments are crucial to tire preservation and always check the printout to see if there is any variance from previous alignments. With light driving I have managed to get 50+K out of a set off 200 tread wear old school RSAs.

Also note that it is crucial for proper and even tire wear. If you end up wearing the tire down improperly, treading water could be come more difficult, making you lose valuable wet traction when you need it most.
