Just got a tint ticket from a bored CHP cop in Riverside, CA. He says I need a certificate to verify that the tint is legal. Anyone heard of this?

On the other side, I have read that ppl go to get their tickets signed off and the cops don't even step out of the office to check, they just sign it off, any experience with this? I may just try it and if they say "Hey there is still tint" I will just take it off.

I limo'd the back windows and told the guy (working out of his van in LA who only charged me $90 for the whole car and no bubbles in 2 years) to go the lightest in the front. Honestly it is probably legal cause you can barely tell there is tint and knowing it has to be like 70 - 80% visibility per law I did do the lightest. I think the cop was bored and pulled this regulation out of his *** that there had to be a certification. I wonder if I take it to the local PD if they will laugh and just sign off on it????

i had tint ticket before(limo all the way around) so i had to peel the front two windows. went to pd and cop signed it off without leaving the building. just asked me where my car is at, i said it's over there in the parking lot down the street. mailed the ticket in and didn't have to pay anything. never heard that it had to be certified, i only know that you need dr prescription if you're doing illegal kind of tint but you need it for your eyes.

Yea i actually recieved about 5 tint warning's before i took my front tint off! But if you know your docter pretty good, and you want to keep the tint LEGALLY ask for the prescription.

Yup, I got 2 tickets for 35% tint in the front windows already (while parking) $25/each and plus 1 warning when driving. Illinois law - no front tint period.

What was the cops badge number on the ticket? I got BSed by a cop in riverside last week right after I dropped my car off at K&N for r&d.

wow, cops aroung here must be pretty laid back, ive had 4 1/2% all the way around (except for windshield) on my 535i for 4 years and 5% on the coupe and no warnings or tickets what so ever although I did get pulled over last night because the cop said driving with fog lights on is illegal and to turn them off when passing a car. is that even a law anywhere??

Lol. When I got my ticket I had heard that same story from people and I thought about going that route but I chickened out and just took off the tint.

Good thing I did because when I went to the CHP station... he actually got off his *** and went to look at my car.

I am one of the lucky ones out there. I have an 05 Altima 2.5 SL with a presidential limo tint of 3% all around and 0% trouble from the cops. Never been pulled over and I've had this tint for over a year...

The trip part about is that I get more hell from the shops that do inspections and they won't pass me. I got turned down 3 times in Abilene, TX where i'm in the Air Force. They failed me for tint being too dark and my windshield strip tint was past the AS-1 line but I got that trimmed down.

Eventually I got passed in San Antonio, TX by a shop my friend's dad knew of. Unfortunately it is exactly a year from when I got that inspection already and I'm due for one this month...

I drive in NJ, PA, and NY all the time.

I've never had a problem anywhere except NY--

I got a ticket for front driver and passenger side windows being tinted.

$80 total. But they gave me the min. it sounds like due to the fact I stated he didn't use a tintmeter and that my tint is legal in my homestate of PA-- where the car is registered.

And btw, no, my tint is technically not legal in PA either...

It's crap, but tint is the same way with concealed carry handguns. You need to check state laws first.

i've been stopped twice in two weeks by the same cop. First time i told him I didnt know they were illegal and the second time I had a PBA card. Did not get a ticket either time. Havent been stopped in over a month now maybe two months. I have 20% front 5% back. He told me that the back was too dark, said you could only have 20% in the back in NJ. But tintcenter.com said u can go any in the back. So who knows which one is right.

I've had my 2005 Altima since June 05 and have been pulled over three times for my tint - twice in NJ and last week in PA. Last week in Bucks County PA the officer put that damn Tint/UV device on my window and it read "12" instead of "70" lol

I told the officer that my windows are tinted because I used to work in Loss Prevention and catch professional shoplifter groups and that they sometimes could spot me without my windows tinted. I also told him that once before in my previous car that shoplifters I apprehended and arrested spotted me in public while I was driving and retaliated against me by trying to run me off the road - no ticket, just a warning! I should have given him my Family PBA card.

Also SENSORS, in NJ you are allowed to tint the rear windows as dark as you like (according to my cousin who is State Police) but the front windows must be untouched. Who cares? As long as you roll down your windows and place your hands on the steering wheel when you are pulled over, there should be no problems. It's f**king tint for crying out loud, not a rocket launcher on the hood!

He's a trooper in NJ out of Red Bank. And let me tell you, every damn trooper has tinted windows on their personal vehicles. So, if they can have it, they shouldn't be enforcing it on us. I dont care if it's for privacy and protection or not. Both of my cousin's Cadillacs have 5% all around.

*most states and provinces forbid the use of tint on front windows and windshield, unless it's OEM and can be proven by driver

Just got my girls 08 Alt tinted 35% all around and she lives in North NJ.

Last week we drove past 3 cop cars (one of them broken down) and they did not stop us..

I live in Pa, and I plan on getting my Alt tinted just dont want to be hasseled over it. My Jeep had 5% rear windows and 20% front windows, and was only questioned about it once...

they got me too in San Diego in the Plaza Bonita Mall, yesterday. What was funny though was that the cop was a rookie he was all nervous had no idea what he was doing. He even encourage me to get a lighter tint when previous cops have told me to the 5% tint off. I still have to take it off but I will be putting back on the next day I get the officer's signiture.

I just got one in hickroy nc. wtf is that? and then the funny thing is every other car around me had the same tint and as soon as i was pulled over a civic hatch with illegal tint just took off. then i had to sit there a hour because she didnt have batteries so two other cops drove up just for tint. and the whole time i was sitting there people were racing by and all the cops that were there were just watching. then i asked why pull me over when people are racing right in front of you. she said its harder than i think and pulling me over for tint is easy...are you kidding me? i was just home for the weekend and live in raleigh and cops there dont pull you for that bs. i guess they understand its better to spend time stopping drunk drivers and other bull.

I got a "fix-it" ticket for front window tint in my old truck. The way he explained it there cannot be any visual obstructions in the drivers line of sight no matter how slight. That is why you cannot tint below the asl line (or whatever it is called) on the windshield. The side tint probably has a lot to do with officer safety if you think about it; especially here in California.

i really hate to say it, but if you did not check your local tint laws prior to having the tint installed then you got no reason to complain when caught with illegal tint. same goes for if you checked them and ignored the laws.
