Ok i need some help, i followed the link i found on NICO. zerothread?id=330308

The timing marks on the crank are lined up 2nd from the left, TDC. In the link it shows the marks on the cam gears should be roughly in the 9'o'clock and 3'o'clock position for the intake and exhaust cam gears respectivly while at TDC.

Mine are completly opposite, 3'o'clock and 9'o'clock for the intake and exhaust gears respectivly.

1-im shocked the car runs period!

2-how do i set the belt correctly from here? With the gear out of whack this much i don't know where to go.

I have pictures already but my putfile account is being gay and not letting me upload.

Turn the engine over 1 revolution, it's at bottom dead center, then see where it is.

What timing mark should it be at? I was told the 2nd mark from the left was TDC

It is but only every other crank revolution. On the other it's BDC.

Im sorry man thats just not clear to me.

So basically just turn the crank 360` so it lines back up with that mark again?

Yup. The cams turn half as fast as the crank.

Ok, so the exhaust cam is dead on but what do you guys think about the intake? Is it close enough or is it off a bit?

Exhaust

Intake

They never seem to align exactly. Use the FSM method and count the teeth.

NOT EXACT!! Turn that engine over a bit, and then re-align it. Mine usually comes out dead on when it is in fact dead on. That looks like the cam being a tooth off in disguise. "Oh its close enough, thats not even close to a whole tooth off!" you say, but then, "Bam b*tch, there was a little bit of slack elsewhere, now I am a whole tooth! Excuse me while I ruin your timing"

Modified the headgasket or had the head/block shaved?

This is why adjustable camgears are required on some modified engines.

not much else explains the 1/2 tooth out that we are seeing.

If you haven't yet 'retensioned' the timing belt, the belt may sag between the cams, and make them not sit in the right place.

This is more likely...

Ive owned the car since 93xxxkm so i dont know if its the stock headgasket or if it has been shaved. I assume it is all stock though.

This is how the belts sits un touched, theres probably 1/2" of deflection in the belt between the cam gears. The motor turns freely and runs. Its just i thought for sure this was my issue for the lack of power in the high rpm. What a piss off.

I will leave it for now a try a few other options, TPS and AFM, while i am still not getting any codes i will change them out either way. Thanks again guys you helped me out big time on this one.
