timing advance, how much?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

ok, maybe not a guru but you seem like you might be able to help me. i have a 91 ka24de, i set the timing according to chilton and nothing. it didn't start before and it doesn't start now. at tdc i think i set it to 0 degrees. it should still start right? i'm getting the three essentials: air gas and spark. any ideas? please???!

Damn, my distributor is rotated all the way to the right(clockwise) and when I rev it I hear what sounds like loose metal(rattling metal) in the head. Is this detonation?
