You almost had me there.
Blah blah blah...

It was closer to $30 than your $125. And for the record, I was trying to melodramatize it...

You edited your thread. Thanks for the melodramatisisisism.

So $51 is it then. Any thoughts on the "head kit" they sell? $160 for everything including exhaust gaskets and all the damn valve cover and intake gaskets... wow.

my head gasket cost $65.85 CAD at the dealership. so about $51US is right bang on, although i wouldn't trade the OEM one for a felpro.

WRONG, it doesn't say they need replacing anywhere in the FSM, they are NOT stretch bolts

Dee - I disagree with you saying the 8-bit ECU is to blame with the std gasket not lasting for big power, with a GOOD custom map the ecu is hugely capable. blame the mapping not the ECU

I'm referring more to the standard ecu with standard mapping as opposed to custom mapping. Custom mapping should be done by professionals and the only one to my knowledge on this side of the big pond is Jim Wolf Technology. Custom mapping is like programming a standalone because you've crunched the #s into the ecu. Standard mapping and big turbocharger, stock injectors and AFM+13psi is a reciped for a burned headgasket.

It is common knowledge among professionals that you should replace any bolt that is exposed to a lot of stress and is removed for service of anykind. It is commonly called preventitive maintenance.

This idea supercedes anything that the FSM does or does not say.Not to mention that the FSM was written by a engineer, not a mechanic.

Scott Avoy in Tampa is a Nissan ECU guru. He does custom maps on SRs, KAs, CAs, RBs, and can tune just about any standalone you throw at him including Haltech, AEM, Microtech, SDS, etc...
