Heads up to anyone who wants a "satin" finish.

Rust-Oleum has a line of spray paint called American Accents. They've got a color called Canyon Black Satin.

The stuff looks great. I used it to paint the front & rear lip spoiler on my old Honda. Matched the existing black plactic moulding perfect. The trick is to paint one area at a time, ex - a single fender. Do light coats, and keep a good distance from the surface so the paint doesn't build up & run. Let each coat dry for a few minutes, that's important. It'll take quite a few coats to finish, but the results will be great. No spray lines.

And never start or stop the paint flow over your surface. Start the flow before you make a pass, and end the flow after you've passed the edge of your target. This will prevent paint spitting.

well im going to go get that bullet proof primer its metalic gray aka silver lol. And just figre out a way to do flat red like my current color is. I like the non shine of my 240 1/2 is shine and 1/2 isn't. So..... 1 coat of paint and 1-2 coats of clear should cover it. I want that semi gloss black shine to the red.

What I have always wanted is a flat dark green. If anyone here plays or has seen Warhammer 40,000 and knows about the "Dark Angels Space Marines", that is the color I want.

I actually dig the "rusted/flat green" some 240's and silvias had as an option...it's kinda aqua blue/green.

like iketani's silvia.

Yes, it is a real deep dark green, in some light it almost looks black, but looks green in the sun.

Ha, 40K. I've got a can of Dark Angel green in my cupboard. But at $8 a can, it wouldn't be cheap.

That's the color I want. I am not too picky, so any dark green like that would work. However I could always just spray some on a piece of paper and have it color matched.

its sealer allright. its sanded, primed, then sealed (and waterproofed). they put at least 8 coats on.

no clearcoat. (hence, "flat")

it will basically last forever until you get it painted. like mainevent said, whenever you're ready all you do is scuff and paint.

you cant put a measly 2-3 coats of that stuff on. he initially said he'd do 6 coats, which he did... then i went to pick it up and the body needed a couple additional touchups. fixed those, then he repainted the whole car again another 4-5 coats.

if you put that many coats on it will last forever. i TRIED to chip it off... wouldn't come off.

i do suggest that for paint jobs, do this. put TONS of sealer on after sanding/primering. then put quite a few coats of the final paint on when ready, along with a few coats of clear. you're paint will never chip and be better than factory. for a budget job, get a "flat black" earl schieb job (its a chain peeps, not a guy named earl lol) for $350 (with body work), then after its all finished there take it to maaco and get a $600 paint job. for under $1000 you will have one nice *** paint job that looks great and will never chip off. earl schieb is good for prepping, maaco is not. earl schieb's paint isn't all that great, but maaco's is. its the best of both worlds.

Iketani senpai is the guy with the S13 Silvia in Initial D. With the spray can paint, should you wet sand b/w coats?

im sure you can do a flat red... you'll have to find that specific paint though (very hard to find...)

good luck and if you do it.. be sure to let us know flat black has that look to it, but im not sure if flat red would look any good, it would just look unfinished. but i dunno, try it, what the hell.

im leaning towards flat black becuase my 240 has dents and needs other body work done, plus the previous owner painted it some puke-orange color

so i figure this is a cheap and easy way to get a good looking paint job

well it's not like flat black is gonna get dirty the same way as a REAL paint job will...the flat black dosent need to preserve any luster or shine, and if it's dusty...it still looks pretty clean...u really just need to hose it off, or use one of those california car dusters or w/e they're called

what do you mean you cant wash it?

Of course you can wash it, you just have to paint again sometime after you wash... no big deal. But there is no earl sheib over in the east coast.
