Sometimes pinhole exhaust leaks can do crazy things to your ears...

The ticking and clicking has been going on for a while now before I lowered the car.I just heard it more when I went to check if the Pine did anything.

Do you mean HLA's?

I think it could be either exhaust or injector problems.

Injectors?Again? Can't be.It's sounds clear from underneath.125k very close to 126k.I did a plenum job at 123k.I checked again today and it was smooth but can hear it like always when I drive. This car is making me angry.

They do but according to my teacher he said not that loud.Someone said it could be valves or something since the car was sitting for like 1.5 month or something before I finally got it all together.Eh?I'm annoyed.

It is probobly just the rods knocking on the block trying to come out to play.

Doubt it.A rod knock would shake the car up.

Its not rod knock unless your ran the car with bad or low oil.

But does your car shake even a tiny bit?

The car does shake like a tiny bit.Like when you get into a muscle car with straight pipes. Not straight pipes from headers with no muffler but has cats and all.Eh I have had a couple mis fires like two.Maybe they're my KS.

Hydraulic lifter (HLA). It's time to try the Marvel Mystery Oil treatment.......and 2 bottles of Redline Injector Cleaner in a full tank of gas.

WalMart or any auto parts store will have it. I have a passenger side fender, DS is gone. Sounds like an afternoon at Pick-n-Pull may be in order.

my 94 q45 is also ticking. Can the valves be adjusted on this car? ticking is less loud after car warms up, but is always present. did not occur until after an injector and knock sensor were replaced

The injectors on this car are audible with the hood up. An HLA tick is much more audible than injectors. Rev the motor and listen for its location. If it's coming from under a cam cover its a lifter. Do the MMO thing, or there are many treatments for sticking lifters. Auto transmission fluid works well, MMO as mentioned, Rislone, seafoam, on and on... It's not a huge problem. Varnish builds up in any hydraulic lifter after a time. Could take several treatments to repair.

my ticking comes from under the plenum or maybe it's just the ticking confusing my ears.Me my teacher checked it out we figured it was the valves. He said to fix what I have to fix under the plenum and do it again.I really don't wanna take the plenum off agian, putting the injectors back in was suck a pain. Haven't had time either with school and all.

It will become much easier if you look at it like its not a pain and its easy. It actually is a fairly simple and straightforward procedure. You have done it before and you'll find it much less daunting the second go-around. Shortly you'll be able to whip it off and put it back together again in no time. I pinched an o-ring on one of my injectors and had the plenum off, injector re-sealed and plenum re-installed in less than two hours working at a moderate pace. I'm sure others here can whip that time. You'll get there. Just look at it as nuts and bolts, it's all it is.

if it was a pinched o ring on new injector would unplugging the injector make it go away?

What they make stethoscopes for, to pinpoint engine noises.

Citing examples on time frame. A pinched o-ring will not cause noise unless the cylinder fills with raw fuel to the point a rod bends, then you'll hear all kinds of noise. To any moderately trained ear there is an expressed difference in HLA tick and the injector click of the Q. HLA tick is very distinctive. Seems to be a common issue with the engine from reading past posts, and an uncommonly difficult issue to deal with. Most HLA on most engines one simple flush will eliminate noise. The VH is a stubborn old waif. Works well in many ways but not so much in others.

what is a HLA? What is a VH? I do not understand how a new fuel injector could make this much noise. If I unplug the injector should the noise stop?
