Before I ask this question let me say that I do not endorse, condone or practice street racing or illegal drifting.

That being said I'm just curious what kind of ticket one might get if they were caught drifting. I'm thinking of simply drifting a turn at a reasonable speed (though proly still speeding) while a cop happens to be around the corner, not full on street drifting.

There's a turn on the way to my house that I always think would be fun to drift if I had an LSD and enough power to drift and if I actually knew how to drift and that made me curious...

Oh, and if any law enforcement officers would like to shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

probably reckless driving or public endangerment... i know here in california, if you do anything stupid, you'll get your car towed, license suspended, a fat ticket, and ppossibly some jail time... btw, you pay for every night your car is impounded...

i heard also that arnold is tryin to make a worse penalty for street racing...

Wow. That's pretty dang severe.

Anybody have any thoughts on potential penalties for parking lot drifting?

and don't forget the raise in insurance

*points vary from state to state.

Thanks for the input folks!

So now it's out there. Drifting can result in some severe penalties. If anybody comes crying about getting their car impounded for drifting you can all point them here and tell them they should have searched first like a good Niconian.

I guess this is a pretty good thread. Every1 forgot to mention, that its just not worth it to drift on the streets. I used to do it all the time cuz i had no tracks or events to do it at. Now that drifting got popular, lil events pop up here and there. I got reckless driving, 2 points, and super low fee of only $180. I got off VERY EASY. I dont drift on the streets any more, and i try to keep my friends from doing it as well. Just go to a track. Funner, learn more, safer, WORTH IT.

Glad you got off semi-easy.

If I ever really want to drift I'll deff. take it to the track. Unfortunately the only track around here is a 2 mile long oval that's on tv twice a year... But hey, in about 3 years we get the hall of fame. I'm so excited.

I got a unsafe speed ticket while doing 25 in a 45mph all for having a welded diff chirp around a corner. The officer said I was out of control. I almost laughed at him when he asked to search my striped to the bone car too. Ending up bieng a point and $160 ticket.

i find the motorcycle cops are the most ana1 retentive. they wrote me a ticket for having my licence plate incorectly mounted. it was on the corner of the bumper, not even on the side.

Haha when I read the ticket I knew it was in CA cuz of the ridiculous name, I've also heard it called Exhibition, but they usually give that to ppl revving their engines so u did get really lucky.

I remember when me and my friends use to mess around in a trail called the Orange Groves which leads to a deserted prison, a cop came and pulled a gun on us. He then ID'd us and luckily he knew one of my friends brother (in a bad way) and he told us to get the hell out of here or he'll give us a ticket for Wreckless driving either that or go down deeper into the trail. It's obvious what choice we took.

In parking lots here they usually just tell us to leave and not come back, but my friend got a ticket for illegal lane use because he drifted coming out onto a street.

There are no tracks around here other than one that is an oval, so we have nowhere to go. What am I supposed to do?

As a campus police officer told me:

"I could write you $1000 worth of reckless driving tickets."

Basically, don't try drifting in public parking lots or backroads either. I got pulled over for drifting while giving someone a ride along, luckily I was not ticketed and the cop asked me what all I had done to my car and had told me he was watching me for awhile before he decided to get me

^ Last time I was in Stillwater the campus police were really cool. They are still police though and thus disliked.

Glad to see some people got off light on the streetdori, I mean I do agree if you want people to not go about it illegally give them a fvckin place to do it,thats not a 100 mile trip. I am against most enforcement but they do have to stop it at some point,I mean I know I take miles for every inch given....

Somebody around here who has a buttload of money needs to go start buying up a bunch of old abandoned wal-marts and k-marts, gutting them and turning them into drift parts. I don't see why this wouldn't make money in a lot of major cities, as long as you had your butt thoroughly covered, legally speaking.

Man tell me about it. Brothaz in the Ga suburbs dont get no brakes, just stares and flashing blues.

just talking to a friend tonight. She has been pulled over three times within the last month. Has not recieved any tickets. She gets treated with smiles and respect. I was with her once. Pulled over for window tint. They spent about 2 minutes on her and the next 10+ on me asking question because I didnt have my drivers license. why are you here? where are you from? what do you do? how long have you known her? and so on. We just left the gym to get lunch for everyone. I went along to help carry the food and I wasnt even driving I was just sitting there talking.

I think its these kind of people who give the good police out there a very bad name.

thats my problem!!! There are so many laws that are enforced that are obviously there to generate some sort of revenue. Illegal window tint, license plate mounting, oh yeah, and having the light by your license plate out...I think that this is where I get pissed, when you take these cases to court, the fact that the state can make money off you takes greater interest than whether or not you actually did anything wrong. I was in court for illegal window tint and witnessed $100 fines turning into $200 plus fines because of court fees, and surcharges. This is BS. This money goes to the overpaid judge who many cases has an inflated ego. You cannot win with our system.

With that said, keep in mind that if I screw up on the road I expect to take responsibility for what I have done, that is justice. Justice is not the window tint and tail light tickets. that is our system taking advantage of its flaw, the fact that it can manipulate and control itself without true and complete checks and balances

Man the way cops love you if you ever got pulled over for drifting you would get arrested for drug trafficking.
