Going home from the course today, I decided to redline the Q... BAD CHOICE..

There was a cop going the opposite direction, and he said he got me clocked at 58 in a 40..... He was "nice" by reducing the speed to 55, which took of $20 off the ticket..... I dont know if he can clock people going the opposite direction... I was actually going 54 or so becuase I just made the 1-2 shift at the redline :D

Help me out, I dont have enough money ($117)... 17, and this is my first ticket...... STPUID Q, WHY DO YOU GOTTA BE SO FAST...

Next investment will be a radar dector FOR SURE! :)

Yup! You need a Valentine 1 for sure!

It is not inexpensive, though! But, think of it as long-term cost-reduction in avoiding tickets and insurance increases! :D

For future reference, if you don't think he clocked you and he has already handed you the ticket, ask to see the radar. If they can't show it to you it's because they either cleared it or they didn't clock you in the first place. Not being able to show you the radar is a huge advantage for you in court.

As for your current ticket, you're SOL on the money issue. It's going to cost you no matter what. My suggestion is that, since it's your first ticket ever, you should go talk to the city/county prosecutor (wherever the ticket was issued) about amending the ticket to a non-moving violation or applying for diversion. Both of these methods will cost a little extra money, but they will not show up on your insurance, which will save you money in the end.

Interesting story about radar detectors. My dad bought the $500 lasar radar detector from the Sharper Image catalog 5 years ago and used it for 3 years. He said he got 7 tickets in 3 years with it, but only 1 ticket in 2 years without it. My guess is that with a radar detector, you feel somewhat invincible.

Very true! More tempting to speed, then!

However, I can clearly point to a number of situations where not having a radar detector would have landed me in jail because of how fast I was going! That made it worth my while for sure. :D

I didnt think about asking to see the radar... Can they clock you while they're moving...?

Check with your local gov, I know in south GA where I grew up when I got my 1st ticket, they let you plead "no-contest". You paid for traffic court & a gov run driving class (usually less) and no points as long as you didn't get another ticket within a specific amount of time.

I'd say just pay the ticket and move on with your life. And try to play around with the Q on the highway where you can redline it and not be speeding.

drive my car sometime;)

I know what it's like, you just gotta watch yourself and you obviously are very familiar with the shift points, so do you really even have to look at the speedo?

oh, mine reads a few mph fast too actually, I got clocked at 68 when it was reading 66 or so. Yeah, that was me leaving my driveway (well a little ways down the road, but you know, accelerating from a stop) and staying in the throttle a little more then I meant too.

btw, I live on a main highway with a 55 limit.

Thing is, I dont normally speed there (small town with 4 cops, no life).....

I usually keep it on the highway, or back roads... But the right foot was so itchy...

My speedo is off a few MPH too, due to using a different sized tire than stock.....

Also, would this make my insurance go up.....??? When it says "dismissed" that means insurance doesnt know about it, correct?

You need to see if they offer this in your "area". I think the link I posted is only available in that county (not sure), but the concept is that you pay the state some $$, go to some "class", keep your nose clean, and all is forgiven, as well as never reported as "points". So, in effect your insurance co doesn't see that you were cited.

Wes, I just got my first ticket about a month ago (78 in a 65) and my insurance hasn't gone up yet. So I think with the first ticket your insurance won't go up, but that it starts at 2.

So many better ways to spend $122 though! I was kicking myself the whole rest of the day.

Good thing the cop didn't clock me at 95. :)

The more I look at this thing, I dont think its available in my county...

IF the insurance wont go up, I might as well just pay the ticket and make life easy.....

That was my thinking behind it too.

Of course, what's true in Washington (where my insurance is paid from) might be different in Indiana. I'd look into it a little bit online and see what's the case.

If you go to traffic school and pay a fine then the points won't go on your license. You should do this because it looks better on your MVR than the speeding violation.Your insurance company may check your MVR to determine weather or not your rates go up.Most insurance companies do this at least once per quarter. They may however only do the primary driver on you policy.

The traffic school could be a good thing for a driver to refresh them in reality.

;)

I am speaking from experience.

Sorry to hijack but I got a question. About a month ago I was clocked doing 73 in a 55. It was my first offense since last June. I ended up getting 2 tickets 1) speeding and 2)after hours(dad told me to get gas). Now the officer wrote 4/17/04 at 4pm as my court date, wich was last saturday. I knew the court would be closed, but we went anyway just to be sure. It was closed. Now what do I do from here? Will it get dismissed or what?

doesnt Indiana have a program where you agree to pay the fine (not an admission of guilt) and then keep your nose clean for a few years and the ticket never goes reported?

I think Indiana does have something like that, it’s called deferment or something... Rob (Koukis14) has used it, I’m going to see if they will let me do it for my ticket, dunno if they will since I'm outta state but we'll see... guess I should slow down... :rolleyes hmmmmmm but that’s no fun. 4 tickets later one would think I would have gotten the point... I think its starting to work...

And yes, cops can clock you while they are moving, whether they are driving towards you or away from you... they also have radar/laser in the back too... sneaky little boogers...

Oh yah and their planes suck too!!!!

yupyup. .

just pay like 20-37 more, and avoid a ticket for 6 months. . and then it doesn't go on your record. Insurance won't know about it or anything. .

but get a ticket within those 6 months, and you'll be getting two on your record. . . such as the case as what I did . . lol. .

but it's saved me so far. . b4 I only had one ticket on my record from 9 years ago.

Go to court and tell the judge you plead guilty and you would like to request court supervision. Since you have no record, the judge will most likely give you 3 or 6 months supervision. This means as long as you don't get a ticket for 3 or 6 months, it doesn't go on your record. This way you don't have to sit through some mind numbing class for 6 hours on a saturday when you could be out on the course.

The State of California allows you to do it on a web site, at your own pace, and then simply show up for a "60 minute" exam. It took me 2 hours total time to finish the material the last time I got a ticket (spread out over three late night web sessions) and then spend about 20 minutes finishing the test at a local school. It was much easier than wasting a Saturday.

Kouki. DId you use the program that Rex (link) mentioned earlier...?? I didnt know if it works for all counties??

I dont really want to go into a school, but maybe I'll try that supervision thing....... I just dont really want it to go on my record, becuase it was a sorta rare occasion!

You are 17. The LAST THING YOU WANT TO DO is outright pay and accept the ticket. Ive done that, and I regret it.

Go to court, dispute it and say it seemed lower because of the shift, and request to see the radar slip.

If the cop shows up and shows the slip, you pay. If not, youre good to go.

After 6 tickets in about 2.5 years, I still haven't gotten the point either ;) Wes, I dont know about where you live, but here in Texas we have several options. One is deferrment, this is where you pay extra, then are on "probation" for 6-12 months (seems to depend on the city your in), if you dont get another moving violation in that time, then you are good to go, its not a bad mark for your insurance. However, if you get another ticket in that time, then both of them are on your record, AND you paid extra for the first one (sucks). That should be your second option though, the first should be going to defensive driving class and having it disappear from your record. Usually that is a 105 dollar fine and then the cost of driving class. So far I've gone to defensive driving twice, deferred two tickets, and outright paid two. Sometimes you just have to pay it...such as when caught going 38 over (oops :D). I've never fought a ticket because well...I've always been guilty and prepared to pay, tickets are just like filling up with gas for me, a cost of driving. I really need to get a radar detector before this speed inducing 240 gets really going well though...As for your insurance, that largely depends on your insurance company. The company must check your driving record in order to find out about any tickets or accidents, some companies do this rather often, others (State Farm in particular) seem to NEVER do it unless you get in an accident. Chances are though, for just one ticket your insurance will go up very little, if at all. If you play your cards right, you can keep your record looking pretty darn clean yet get about 2 tickets per year...definitely not a bad deal.

sorry man tickets do suck :( you would think that cops would have better criminals to chase but when the old people complain they come after us :( vicious cycle
