Every few months I have to give my headlights some tlc. I used to sand them with low grit to high grit and use aluminum polish but I heard about a wheel they sell at napa you can attach to a drill and do the job much quicker.

My question is, would clear coating the headlights after cleaning them prevent future contamination?

Would the clear coat just dirty and make it more difficult to clean?

Would clear coat have a negative effect on lighting? Either to me or oncoming drivers?

ThanksJon

I just hit mine with a buffer and some mag polish every few months, only takes me a few minutes, its not that big of a pain. I would imagine that any clear coat that will adhere to plastic wont be much harder than the plastic itself, it will most likely yellow in the same way the plastic does..

i had the same thought a while back. cleaning up the lights then hitting them with some wheel paint clear coat. I say it would protect them better than nothing. i mean the clear coat on your car doesn't get faded and nasty every few months does it?

go for it and let us know how it holds up!

Flawed logic, you car body is not made of clear plastic. Plastic headlights yellow due to absorbing sunlight, I fear that clear coating it will not stop that absorption.

I see what you're saying. i thought clearcoat was a uv protectant as well.i always figured my headlights got yellow from all the construction dirt kicked up on them. they're always building something around here.but the uv bit makes sense.

f-it, just get the german glass headlights
