You'll need to take off you summer compound semi-slicks , and buy a tire that doesnt get hard in the cold. Enter Bridgestone Blizzak.

These tires stay soft and grippy in the cold. A friend of mine runs these exact tires on his 240 hatch in the winter and he gets great tracion. He even pulled a Ford Focus out of a ditch with tow straps last winter.

good call, bridgestones are where its at, on a semi related note, I am an idot cause I parked my car for the winter outside ( right now burried in over a foot of snow) and I still have my summer rated tires on (fuzions) and I'm sure I screwed them up, ugh no fun

The WinterForces were actually decent tires when I had them on a truck a few years back.

My first choice would be Nokian Hakkapeliittas --Finnish tires. Fantastic grip

they are alright, however I did autocross them a few weeks after I got them, and they chunked up real bad, which was pretty lame, other than that, they grip to the road nicely, then again, these are the best tires I haved, previous tires have just be econo tires, so ya I dunno if my opinion would changed if I had nicer tires next time

I cant agree with anyone who says that the one tire they tried is "the best ever" , when the have'nt compard them to any other tire first.

True. But hopefully we're all on topic that this thread is about winter tires for daily driven cars.

i can vouch for Falken ZE512's. Ok during the summer but good in the winter. Daily driven in a NH winter, no traction problems.

Blizzaks are overpriced garbage. hmm my buddy spend 800 on those and I spent 270 on my kelly wintermarks and they last longer, grip better, and saved me over $500

..... The blizzaks are 119.00 (each) at tire rack for stock 240 wheels.

They dont get up to 200 a tire until the 245's in 18's and if your running wide tires in snow your stupid and have no room to talk.

The green car in my sig was a photoshop project from high school... and is pretty much a hand built image not a real 240... so there's nothing "quality" about it since its my version of everything. Might as well call it a knockoff special. And those Blizzaks are still $200 more than my tires and mine were mounted and balanced for that price... I've driven on Blizzaks, replaced Blizzaks and will never go back to Blizzaks. My lincoln LS killed them in one season and I barely drove 4k on them... kelly wintermarks are almost new with 2 seasons on them and tons of tread

Winterforce tires are compareable to Blizzaks and are a little cheaper. I had then on a civic a few years back and for $40 something a tire they were worth it. There are also a few guys local that swear by them. If you have decent all season tires and think you get around fine, winter tires are a world of difference.

Ok , i take back my previous statement then. I like to hear that you actually compared one brand agaist another and made you own conclusion on what works best for you.

I'm rocking right now Dunlop Wintersport M3's

Check it out:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...rt+M3

Highest effin' ratings I've ever seen on a tire. I have high expectations. So far dry traction is shockingly surprising. Very good grip due to it's silica compound. You don't feel like your'e driving on marshmellows at all. Waiting for some snow or heavy rain to see how it does but I have no qualms. I knew I had a good tire when my friend at the local tire shop told me he sold a 2nd set to a guy with a BMW M5 that has a fancy house on a steep hillside in PA.

I'll post back w/ my reviews after we get some snow. My driveway is a steep one, probably 40degree angle the first half and then it flattens out. So if I can get up it with no issue(i have a VLSD too) then it will get my seal of approval.

If you guys are concerned about the prices of Winter Tires...... Plan ahead for next year, and buy winter tires during the spring or summer. You can get them for like 20-50 bux each if you look around. Lots of warehouses want to get rid of them when it's not 'that' time of the year. Just like right now, you can get some of the summer tires, and some of the 'R' compounds for cheap. Like I said, look around.

Edit: Just thought about it, maybe I got a bit off topic. But the Blizzak's are a good tire. I swap them out for a lot of people here at the base gas station. But at Sears where I'm a mechanic, everyone seems to be buying the Michelin X-Ice's.. Food for thought.
