Regardless of Blizzaks vs.. whatever. Snow tires are much better in snow then regular tires.

I had kumho 711s on my car before, and spent the entire damn time stuck. It was hell.

I snagged a set of blizzaks with steelies from a guy on craigslist for 200 bucks. Best winter investment ever. I am totally confident even in 6 inches of snow.

If you think you need snow tires, you need snow tires.

it does when the rear starts to come around, the momentum makes it just like a pendulum

If you guys are concerned about the prices of Winter Tires...... Plan ahead for next year, and buy winter tires during the spring or summer. You can get them for like 20-50 bux each if you look around. Lots of warehouses want to get rid of them when it's not 'that' time of the year. Just like right now, you can get some of the summer tires, and some of the 'R' compounds for cheap. Like I said, look around.

A year ago my buddy broke his leg and couldnt drive. I was at his house the day after it snowed about 6 inches. He asked me to take his car out of the garage, let his roommate park in the garage, and then park behind him at the top of the driveway. He didnt tell me (and I didnt notice) that he still had his Nitto 555r's on the car. I couldnt get back up the driveway.

The Blizzaks are good tires, I used them one winter and didnt have any problems. I, like many others it seems, would love to get a set of Hakkapeliittas.

the canadians know their snow tiers. the government does a yearly "roundup" on the tires available on the market to recommend to their constituents.

I've been nothing but disappointed in my Ziex 512's. They lose traction in dry weather and have none in rain or snow. I vouch against Ziex 512's. Excellent tread life. Suck everything else.

That might of been the problem. Dunno. Might of been grippier if you had say 16x7 or 8 with 215's. But then again you dont want wide in the snow. Just a thought.

Redtop is right.. 512's are crap. Had a friend w/ a S13 a few years ago auto cross on them and they started flaking in bits and pieces and re-sticking to the tread blocks. Sure it was hot outside, but he was autocrossing for the first time and was going pretty slow. I've never seen a so-called UHP all-season tire do that. Perhaps the 912 is better? That's up in the air since those are brand-new for the year.

I have to say though, there are not a lot of good uhp all season tires on the market as of right now. Only ones I recommend people are the Yokohama Avid V-rated tires, BFG Traction T/A's (for a commuter car, decent for a winter set too--i've used them), Avon M550 a/s and for more $, the ADVAN S4 that I run in the summer. The Bridestone RE950, which IMO was a badass tire for the money is gone and replaced by the much more tepid G009.

The Michelin X-Ice is a great tire, we have that on the Subaru, and my friend rocked a set on a Z31 n/a and was able to get around our neighborhood full of steep hills when it was icy out.

Overall, if you live anywhere that gets snow and has a crappy department of trans. when it comes to clearing roads, you should absolutely have a set of snow tires. Especially for a rwd car. No excuse.

^I ran the 512's last year in the winter (normal driving) and they were fine like i said , personal preferences , different driving styles i guess. Esco also praises the 512's. My buddy just bought the new 912's and he said they are pretty damn grippy in the dry/wet/snow.
