To answer your question. No, you do not need an external wastegate to run a screamer pipe.

If you look at the pics, you can see that the piece uses the existing internal wastegate. Most external wastegates are located in different places depending on who is doing what with thier cars, and some plumb them back into the exaust, some vent to the atmosphere.

Well, everyone. The Laurel has become one pissed off car. I installed the screamer yesterday with some help from a friend and the local tuning shop.Had some issues trying to get it to fit, running out of day light, and some other things that always end up happening...never having that one tool you need. The swivel socket head and the 2 foot extension. Anyway, got it on, did the shakedown on the highway, and let me tell ya.

Boost response is phenomenal. I had to keep adjusting my boost controller, and still don't have it dialed in right. So for now, she is running safe at about .78 bar. I spiked up to .92 and it scared the hell out of me. We don't want turbine blades exploding and going through my exhaust. Also had an issue with the ghetto'd up recirc tube I am running blowing off the BOV because I forgot to tighten the clamp down. LOL.

Ran an FC last night after the highway pass, too. The poor guy had his window down and caught the full effect of the screamer at WOT. (I was on his driver side, and the screamer would have been right there in his ear...lol) Guy looked like he saw a friggan banshee when that thing cracked open.

As far as sound, well...

The part itsels has a little partition between the exahust tube and the wastegate dump, but it doesn't seal completely, so you get a small amount of blowby from the exhaust. It's not bad, and it doesn't really bother me, but it does give it kind of a hollow sound now, which is kinda cool.

Now, all that's left as far as bolt on stuff is the FMIC that I am working on. I'll try to get some sound clips of it this weekend when SeinSil80 comes over for my Nihongo lesson.

Stay tuned.

It sounds mean as hell! Especially in tunnels and next to walls...

And that poor kid in the FC didn't know what hit him... he hears quiet spooling and then all of a sudden there's a pissed off laurel off his bow under full steam =)

Hey Brad, thanks again for the help yesterday. If nothing is going on Saturday, I'll let you know. Also, don't forget about the couplers and vaccum hoses for me when you get back stateside.

I was going to ask if the exhaust leaked out throught the wastegate dump. I had that problem on the first AM performance screamer pipe I bought. The second version ande sent over had a flared tube that stuck into the turbine port on the turbo and sealed up quite nicely. Now the car is quiet until the wastegate cracks open. before, it was just loud all the time. I do love blasting people with their windows down. its nice. but only if they deserve it.

Yeah, it has some blow-by, but it's not incredibly bad. I can deal with it myself, but I don't know how other people would be with it. I kinda like the sound. It sounds a little hollow at mid rpm's then you crack the whip and you give heart attacks to anyone within earshot.

Maybe in the future, I can mod this thing to seal up a little better, but for now, I will keep it as it is.

I hope to get some sound clips this weekend.

*watches video*... I'm buying metal parts for fabrication today.

Question. Does the wastegate exhaust tube flare out at all, or is it straight tubing? Also, what dimensions of tubing did you use?

PS Carl,You have a Bride seat in your passengers side? What about drivers side?

BronzeMFP,You have a nice car as well

the wg tube is the same size as the flange on my wg.on the am performance bit there is a tube with a taper that goes into the turbine outlet to seal the gasses off from the wg dump so it doesnt leak and sound gross...i have 2x bride brix 2's in the car with bride sliders, got a killer deal on them from a friend...price was TOO good to pass up.

is there any "real" performance benefits with a screamer pipe or is it just for the sound.

compared to the std elbow you will notice increaced boost response and lack of top end taper.

Well, I finally got off my arse and uploaded my few pics of the screamer's install from last week. I didn't do the whole instal, just a few pics, but here it is in all it's loud and proud glory.

Hopefully tonight, I can get some audio of it when I go to meet a 34-R owner with Mason.

This is the stock elbow and the front pipe after removal.

This is the test fit of the screamer, with just a couple bolts holding it in place. Wanted to make sure the dump was going to clear my HVAC line going through my firewall.

And here are a couple after the install.

Stand by for videos, hopefully in the morning.

Damn LHD and their steering shafts always in the way. I wish this was as easy as you make it look.

Has anybody figured out a way to make the steering drive-by-wire, so us LHD-ers can run as large of down pipe diameter as we want?

darius, get the am performance dump elbow if you want screamer gate...works well on lhd cars.and steering by wire ftl...just like brakes by wire, even scarier.

Ditch the RB and get a 1JZ then you can run 4" dumps without a problem :-)

I don't want any wires between major points of driving input at the part that makes it happen. Nissan can't make electric windows work right, you think I want electric steering? **** that!

bwahahah. Theres more to steer by wire than just a sensor, wires an a motor. You need a Hi-Can/Lo-Can system ran by a computer with several fail safes before you should even drive it around a parking lot.

Can't clear your steering shaft, go rhd, but it is possible to clear so whatever.
