I have been in a GTS and let me tell you those things are rough. Talk about getting back to the basics, given the year of the car don't know maybe 84? but it was so funny becuase i sat in his and he sat in mine he was all like "damn dude its hella comfertable in here".. i will also add another thing the postion of the shifter is ungodly, its as if yor driving an old Semi or an old 60's Ford truck like me freind jimmy's.. but yeah if you have been in a 240 you will sure give up a lot of comfert things, not to say you won;t gain anything either..

hey Holistic beats is that you in your avatar, have you come down with a case of SARS? haha...:)

EDIT: yeah the GTS is a Twin cam correct. becuase his had athese graphics or some stickers down by the rear fender. with TWIN CAM in huge letters. didnt know if it was rice or what, don;t know much about the cars.

I feel sorry for the stupid schmuck who is paying 7 grand for a $1,000 car.

I would love to have one as a beater, but they are impossible to find.. plus you'd probably have to replace pretty much everything (16-17 years is a little wear). meh.

ahh, but that's not the point. it's more like a toy. something to get in addition to your pick-up ride. Power and looks have nothing to do with the appeal of this car.

unless you paint it a nice glossy deep blue and put white thin rims on it :D

and with picking up girls, just tell them the reclining racing seat is REALLY comfy.

I'd like to correct myself on some incorect information. the sr5 is indeed a sohc model. I was under the impression that we did not recieve this engine. sorry my bad. sr5 also has no power steering.

My friend and I just picked up an 86 hatch back GT-S for 2200 and that car kicks ***. Fun as he11 to driv around, stock limited slip, has 120 hp at the crank and is almost as fast as a stock 240. But the 240 is better IMO, just like Eklectric said, its more of a toy, solid rear axles dont make the best handling potential. But his is clean and 2200 is a pretty good deal.

Very fun little car, have thier share of probs just like anay other car, but fun :)

the hting about this is wherther its rice or gay or whatever the guy is gonna get exactly what he wants fdrom this car cause there will be for sure some initial d nut who will be like wicked 86 and will buy it. and who ever said its a bad car is horribly wrong those cars are wicked if you are into drifting not only to learn on but to actually do serious drifting in so its by no means a bad car

yeah the GT-S is the one to look for. they can be a tad more money, put they are lighter, more powerful, and easier to throw aroung than the SR5,

oh and to the people who say they have no potential.... almost any motor with RWD can be swapped into this car. ive seen F20's (think S2000) SR20's (duh) CA18's (could be self explanitory also) 3SGTE's (think turbo MR2 with Altezza 6 speed) i bet even a VG30 could fit

rwd came in 85-87, although the 87's only came in coupe form. the GTS is dohc but lsd was not standard...some GTS's didn't come with lsd and all SR5's are sohc w/ no lsd. Not only is the engine different but the cars are structurally different from the gas tank to even spot welds.

the production ratio was around 9 SR5's to 1 GTS so looking for a 85-86 GTS is indeed a super rare find. I'd definetly pick up one of these badboys in a heartbeat if I could find one. but since a GTS isnt gonna fall into my lap I'll just keep looking for a 91-93 240sx.

I've heard some fellow in Australia swaped in a Formula Alantic spec engine (Still a 4A-G) into one. Would that be the car? Envy!!!

I think AE86s are the Japanese version of a Escort Cosworth and thus have the same appeal outside of the initial D silliness.

IMO it looks better than half the 2000 cars out there, i just cant stop imagining it with a lower stance and 16" thin spoke white rims on it, i know you peeps like old school wheels but that whole brass look is a little beyond me.

and to throw more dirt in the grave about the girls comment, if you can find a girl that appreciates the AE86 for what it is, you can count yourself lucky.

:bearchug

They are a fun car if you're not trying to impress women, or looking for a high hp car with all the creature comforts people enjoy in their newer cars.

It's a novalty. If I ever run across a GT-S Hatch in decent shape, I will jump on it like white on rice. (hah) It'll go good with my next S14 w/ RB25 :) One for pure drifting fun, and the other for pure racing.
