I have read up on this alot and done alot of searching. I have finally decided to go sr20. I have a 97 240sx auto. I am not worried about the manual swap I can get all that ready once ka & auto are pulled. I do have a question on the sr motors though. Is there any real benifit to getting an s14 blacktop over the s13redtop or blacktop. I plan to upgrade the turbos, cams, injectors and maybe some light headwork. Is there any other reason I should consider the more expensive s14 blacktop? From what I have read it seems that I am looking to upgrade the parts that are different on the blacktop anyway is this correct? Any other advice on things to research, or a good reliable source for motors before I make the jump? I have read the where to buy thread, just looking to get the most info possible from the people who know these motors!

Ive been abusing my redtop SR for 5 plus years, and 100,000 miles.

If you are upgrading all those parts, you will be negating the major benifits of the Notchtop SR. The only other major thing would be age. The notchtops being newer, you will be more likely to find one with lower miles, and in better condition. In this day and age, many of the S13 engines coming over have been abused in one way or another, though with the S chassis craze, this is becoming true of the new engines as well.

As far as where to buy from, I would stick to Nicoclub sponsors. They are sponsors for a reason, and they have 100,000 plus members to answer to if they screw up. Its been a long time since Ive hunted for an engine, but I know companies like FRSport, or Enjuku, are super reliable, and fairly priced. I personally would highly recomend. Phase 2 Motortrend

if you are gonna do upgrades might as well get a redtop and save a little bit of money for upgrades
