This question is for those of you that live in a city that requires emission testing (so the country-bred rednecks need not apply )...

What are the ways you guys deal with the testing in your city? Also, what kind of engine/car combinations are you using?

I know that swapped in Jap-Spec motors are supposed to be illegal in every state, but I have heard of people beating the emissions testing.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm really interested in picking up a 97-98 240 and swaping for either a SR20 or a RB25. Right now I'm just trying to get as much information as I can about it. I'm assuming that model of 240 comes fully equipped with OBD-II, which everyone loves , and I was just curious how that would work with swaps of this nature. Would an earlier model S14 be less of a headache, or is it really not that big of a problem?

1. either try to find a buddy who'll pass me out the pipeor2. pay up the nose for it.

for odb II, you'll pay up the nose for it most likely. Good luck with that.

It depends a lot on the tester. In WA if you have OBDII and its broken sometimes they will just run a standard emissions test. The engines themselves can be made to pass emissions relatively easily. But they will not usually pass smog tests if the state has them.
