did any1 see the new SCC ultimate street car challenge, the nissan skyline came in 2nd.....right behind the 82,000 dollar dodge viper,i think it did pretty good myself...since im sure alot of you dont read scc this is the order they listed them in:

1. viper(977)

2. skyline(972)

3. supra(957)

4. eclipse(797)

5. subaru WRX(791)

6. MR2(689)

7. Acura type R integra(581)

8. mitsu 3000gt(506)

9. Laminar SRX-7(426)

10. Datsun 510(354)

of course all these cars were modded but they all had to be street legal. i just thought that was interesting to see the skyline hang with 80 sum thousand dollar cars.

Are those numbers HP numbers?? If so, how'd they get 797 out of an eclipse?? That doesn't seem possible out of a 1.6L POS.

POS eclipse. watch out man, DSM's have some SERIOUS balls, by the way the 4g63 is a 2.0 liter i believe just like all of our sr20's... and they have AWD. but why would a viper be in a "compact car challenge".... the whole SCC challenge is a bunch of BS.

No No No, the 420A is the non turbo dsm, in the 90 to94 models, they came with a 1.8L, and 95'99, they cam with a 2.0L, the 4G63 comes in the EVOLUTION and the eclipse, talon and laser and came came with a 2.0L, with 210 hp in in either AWD or FWD, the non turbo came with 140 hp for the 1st gen dsm and 155 for the 2nd gen.

By the way, one of my brothers cars is a talon n/t, with a hahn stage 2 kit, he hasnt touched th internals yet, and hes pushin 290 on 10 psi, he runs high 13s,low 14s, with the stage 3, he'll have 375 hp, but wit some engine work, and run low 13s high 12s, both engines are very good when done right

it is street legal probably because 1) the guy can crashtest the car as much as he wants because he makes it -or- its registared as an rx7. 2) all the mechanicle parts are from US market cars.

how in the WORLD did type R ever beat rx-7? it should have been right on top there with skyline and viper..in fact i like to think of the fd as a lightweight viper with a rotary...

Not to defend SCC, but the rating system they use to judge cars are in many different catagories. It's not just horsepower, its being the "ultimate street car" as they put it. Just out of curiousity, is the GTR really considered a compact? and then what is the definition of compact car? Also, you guys remember last year what won?... yeah so it happened again basically.

This is NOT correct, at least partially incorrect. The 4G63 is the 2.0 turbo that came in the DSM's. The early ones are stronger than the later ones. From '95-'97 the Mitsu engines had a big problem with crank walk. I could spout a lot of info regarding this engine, but this is not a DSM board. There were also different n/a engines, but no one really cares about those.

The EVO is also powered by the 4G63 with a big 16g turbo. I posted a large amount of information regarding the EVO not too long ago. You may search for it if you are interested.

As for the USCC, why is it a bs competition? The Viper is a killer machine, no one can question that. So is the Skyline. The one in this test was an R33, NOT an R34. It was rather modestly modded compared to the Viper which was completely rebuilt. But why would it not belong in this competition?

The car that didn't belong was that dumb arse VR4 Spyder. That guy claimed to have over 600hp, but had half of that, was slow as all hell, and drove like a fairy. Why has no one mentioned that? The Viper stomped arse, that's why it won, but not by much. I too would rather have a GT-R than a Viper, but that doesn't mean the Viper didn't belong. Come on.

Another big misconception about the USCC is that it has to be sport compacts. It doesn't. It's all about the ultimate street car, hence the name.

5 damn points. The GT-R should have won. Alright, so I'm a fanatic, the Viper didn't make any sense. It's Sport Compact Car, they do compacts, and anything import really, NOT FRIGGIN VIPERS.

Well, you cannot change who one, sure I would of liked the GT-R to win, but considering it was up against like repo said a rebuilt viper, the skyline showed its stripes. At least it didn't get beat by a honda or dsm :)

btw, off subject, is the eclipse a import?!? I heard from dsm guy, that there are no eclipses in japan. Can anyone verify this, cause to think about it I have never seen a picture of a japan eclipse.

What Repo didn't mention about the VR4 was that the snail the guy claimed to have in his 600hp+ car doesn't even exist. the contest seemed well rounded.

Yes, there are no eclipses in Japan, they get the even more underpowered but far sexier FTO.The cars in the USCC are determined by voting from the readers on the car they want to see in there, just like the Mustang and the Ferrari in last years competition. They judge everything from comfort, cleanliness, engineering, to the gamut of HP, hot lap time, 1/4time, and emissions. I may have missed one or two tests, but they really go for everything. The SRX-7 lost to the Type R because it wasn't as well-rounded a car, at least by SCC standards. Anyway, SCC is a decent mag, I just wish they could've kept quiet about the 240 being a sweet car until I had bought one!

Not to mention that the SRX-7 really isn't even an RX-7 but is more of a Lotus Seven with a turbo rotary

Sorry there Ryno, I guess I didn't study the magazine quite as intensely as you obviously have. That car sucked regardless of what turbos it had.

Again, the contest was NOT LIMITED TO SPORT COMPACT CARS. IT WAS THE ULTIMATE STREET CAR CHALLENGE, WHICH MEANS IT COULD HAVE BEEN ANY CAR THAT WAS VOTED IN BY READERS.
