Damn, I was just looking at an R32 at the Datsun heritage museum and it had a color that looked just like yours (or yours like it's) and I was thinking I wanted my car that same color. But I got blue interior.... wonder if it would look good?

Never been a fan of Silvia front ends on the hatchback, but yours does look pretty good.

I think it's because you actually painted it.

That charcoal is HOT! no not literally, well maybe. I'm a big fan of that paint, and you're making me miss it, awesome future plans also!

Only thing is I don't think you need hood pin things. Even though they're expensive and baller it doesn't make it right unless that hood is CF, but even then the cf hoods these days have great frames and hood latch bars.

But as the saying goes, to each his own.

Thanks again for the comments!

Didderson, I do have a carbon hood for it, and that was originally where I was going to put the pins. But my painter found out that it would have pretty much ruined the hood because once you cut it, it exposes the actual carbon fiber from the outer shell/gloss layer. Thus, over time, since there's nothing protecting it, it'll start to peel/crack around where it was cut.

i went to tech school for auto collision repair, and have worked at numerous shops and have ALOT of experience in this field. so yes, i do know more about this than most people on here. you can put those pins on your cf hood (btw those pins are the shlt) without ANY ill effects. i agree with someone saying to paint your cf hood, and throw that on there. from my OWN PERSONAL experience i have had a couple CF hoods, and put pins on them. they were quality hoods, and not that shlt to where the clear starts to fade in a year. i live in florida.... you know where it rains almost everyday of the summer. carbon fiber is not an absorbent material, such as a towel is. it will not crack the finish on your hood even if you washed your car everyday for 5 years. its just like cutting a hole in fiberglass.... put some masking tape over your hood of where youre going to drill your holes. this will prevent any spider cracking.

i just hate when people get taken advantage of because they dont know any better. if anything, id be more worried about putting those pins on a hood made of steel that can rust from the outdoor elements..... make sense??

Kalypso, that pic is sooooooooo tempting! But I want to scrape as least as possible lol. I might lower it a tad more though.

Kind of a sketchy site but I took the chance, paypaled the money, and it worked out pretty well.

MICRoS13 - I was thinking about a lip, but there comes the scraping issue again so idk.

j-z - Whatever, I don't really care, no biggie. I'm already using the set on my metal hood, and since the carbon one already has a latch, I can't really justify shelling out another $90. I thought it was nice that he cut my metal hood for free AND put an extra clear coat on the carbon hood.

And besides, if I sell the hood (which I'm still kinda wanting to) I'd have to sell it with the pins. And then I'd really never get my money back.

if you run a carbon fiber hood, id definately run hood pins. the latches suck and break all the time. ive had multiple friends have the hood blow up on the interstate because they werent running hood pins.

Yep, in my own personal opinion i think it would look great. Usually i would say just tint the windows a little bit. But even without tint i think the exterior color with that color interior would look GREAT! My new found neighbor on the opposite side of the street is actually restoring the engine on his platinum blue 89 240, i have NEVER seen a SUPER CLEAN FULLY COMPLETE blue interior like his, i will get pics sometime soon to whore out for him. Hes not a big interwebz user. But anyways yes, it would look great to me. With or without window tint!....

Good Luck

Just to throw it out there, It ALL depends on how the hood is made.

Take a stock 240sx Hood VS a stock Silvia hood (s13). The silvia hood right off the bat is going to have more drag then the 240 hood, because the 240 hood comes down in the middle, like points down. The silvia hood does not, it is slightly curled. What happenes at slightly high speeds in a RWD car or any car for that matter? Back end dips, raising the front up a little bit. I do not think i need to explain the rest, enough stress anywhere is going to cause it to break, But i think hood pins are only needed on certain types of hood designs. More of a better safe then sorry type of thing.

OP, Your car looks wonderful and i may not know as much about paint as everyone else but i know i fresh looking car when i see one, and i see one haha. The lot of us understand what it is to live and build on a budget and others just find it fun to try and rain on others parades. Enjoy what you have i like it a lot.

Questions though, Are you thinking about skirts, valances or a lip in OEM? Tail lights?maybe window tint? And are you using Amber, clear, or Two Tone (half amber half clear) turn signals? Cuz if you were using clear and you smoked them to match the corners........ AHHHHHHHHH it would look so bomb, in my opinion ^^

Any who! It's nice to see another sil40/sil80.

One Love,

Ghasty

^ I think it's Charcoal but I could be wrong.

Ghasty, window tint is a must, especially out here. That'll be one of the first things I do once I get it tagged/street legal. I'm leaving it stock body right now, no aero. I'll see how it does on the street as is, it's already pretty low. As far as the corners and bumper lights, they're oem corners and amber lights that are both being "smoked." Hopefully they'll turn out decent. I'm really thinking about Type X lights but some other things must come first, like A/C lol.

Btw guys, as far as my license goes, I get it in June.
