What really sucks is that employers have stopped rewarding their employees for hard work.

In the last job I had, doing contract work for Dell, the only benefit for working hard was that I got to keep my job. I consistently exceeded all performance metrics. Yet there was no good job or raise to be had. The only reward was that I was not harassed by my manager.

This whole mindset needs to change.

I like the PFP plan. That is, Pay For Performance. Your employer sets minimum goals for you. If you reach those goals you are left alone and simply get your pay check. Where this program differs is that they also set a few more goals higher up. Lets say your minimum quality control score is an 85%. If you average above 90% for the month you get X bonus. If you're above 95% you get even more. Companies that participate in these programs have extremely happy and loyal employees. I have a few friends working at Medco Health Solutions doing call center work. They only make $12.50 an hour, but they consistently exceed goals and walk away with a $500 bonus every month! Talk about motivation!

Good for companies that do that. I hope they do reward all employees that exceed expectations. The McDonald's i work at has horrible management. Store managers are pressured by higher ups to make thousands of dollars each day while keeping ungrateful customers happy. This in turn affects me, who works evenings, in a bad way, tremendously. The store manager only likes to hire people who want to work mornings, to assure things run smoothly when they're there, so the night shift often gets understaffed and overworked. Then, the morning shift has bad habits of not cleaning up after themselves sometimes, or just making messes that managers don't notice until it's time for the afternoon/evening shift to leave.

To make things worse, a huge portion of the people i work with are just darn lazy. Myself and a few hardworking employees have to pick up their slack because they're the ones always complaining to the managers about us being lazy, because we're busy at the time and can't run to freezer to get something they could've gotten instead of being on the phone.

I'm really glad for this one guy who got moved up to manager, because he works hard. Even though it means more work for him, it's also a better opportunity which could lead to better things.

i do understand why companies think they can pay us "just enough" cause fact is 90% of employees in such companies only do "just enough". Forcing the other 10% to be dragged down also, because of their barely satisfactory quality of work. Most companies also don't care for firing such employees, because truth is, if every employee gave 120%, there'd be too many complaints about pay for them to ignore.
