i dont think i need to buy anything else to get this head unit to work. Roger gave me the wiring harness for the deck and told me to solder it all together and itll work, if it worked for him itll work for me. I must have screwed up a wire or something. hell problyget back to me soon

in this case i would focus more on the remote wire...find the constant 12vwire ( should be yellow) to see if the amp will light up

actually youre more likely to blow subs with NOT ENOUGH power.... when you try to turn the volume up and the amp just doesnt put out enough power, it can clip or distort (sometimes undetectable by the human ear)

too much power is way better than not enough power

or if you have the gains messed up..... thats another quick way to blow 'em anyways let us know how it goes!!

i tought of that for a while...but i dont know how to install the inline converter..on top of that my subs will overpower the stock speakersmy plan for now is to wait for spring/summer and start from scratch

ok guys almost there, home stretch! here is my system now...head unit works with factory amp and speakers and antenna, problem was my factory amp was not grounded to the right wire! once i changed that it worked right away. I also have remote power on for my subs amp working, so when deck turns on...a green light appears on the amp, when it turns off it goes away....now my only problem is no sound out of my subs...hmmmm...gunna look it all over tommorow. I hate how it gets dark so early now!! argh!!! was using a flashlight trying to install the single din kit..forget that! lol ill try tommorow

Doing this will not have your amplifier power the door speakers it will allow your stock headunit to output amplifier level outputs as do aftermarket headunits for subwoofers.

single DIN conversion kits piss me off. i bought a canadian tire one and it doesnt make any sense. i also got a scosche one from walmart and it was even MORE confusing. and to add more anger...its dark ALREADY. so i gave up. My brackets on factory deck are SO TIGHT like i was sooo mad. They torqued them way too much....i only got one side off the other the bolts are pretty much stripped. im frustrated. going on day 3 with no music just because i cant get that stupid single din setup in there. and i still have yet to find why theres no sound out of my subs....im THIS close to installing my factory deck back in and saying **** it till the weekend cuz 1 hour a day after work is USELESS.

Wow, I remember those days... *reminisce*

I'd offer help as I used to do professional installs, but that was 10 years ago and my knowledge is completely out of date.

Fueler's right, the Sony ES were THE deck to have. I know, I went through 3 of them (kept upgrading) and I still miss those things (in comparison to QX4 stock). Xplod is utter crap. I test ran one of the first decks they put out under that... It sounded hideous in comparison.

I also ran the original RF punches. Probably semi-primitive today, but they were awesome back then. I had to reseal my trunk TWICE because they hit so hard.

But crutchfield is definitely your #1 source for the amateur. They'll bend over backwards for you as long as you buy from them. And they'll even be nice on occasion if you don't.

Good luck man and keep on ballin!

yes you are correct...what i meant was that once the subs are installedi would have to replace the speakers as i won't be able to hear much from the bass

aaanyways, i got my deck in, didnt put the dash kit, just the factory brackets to hold it so i at least have music. Ended up drilling out the stuck screws on the factory HU.

so heres my systems status:

Whats Done:

-Amp/subs/box are in truck-amp is wired to subs....both subs connected to 1500w channel-ground wire for amp is in, sanded down a bolt under the seat and screwed it to that-power wire for amp is wired...through firewall, fused, then connected to positive terminal of battery.rca cable is connected from amp to HU-remote turn on for factory amp and sub amp are all tied together to the head unit-factory amp/speakers are WORKING with head unit-remote turn on is working for amp as well (small green light comes on with HU)-power wire ran neatly down drivers side-groudn wire ran neatly down passenger side-head unit is mounted with factory brackets

whats wrong/not done

-need to install single din dash kit (after i figure out whats wrong with subs)-THE PROBLEM: no sound out of subs whatsoever. I even tried hooking up the rca's in different channels, and also looked for a *subwoofer out* on/off on the headunit...nothing. im stumped. Ill keep workin at it little by little everyday till i get it though!

got it! American Boss AS-5100 or A5-5100...cant tell. I actually love the look of this amp. as i was coming back from my car i gave it the glance back as always and right now its on showoff mode...cargo cover rolled back..and the suns so bright right now taht it shines right through the tint and you can see my amp gleaming in the sun....lol dont worry theres no theft in my work parking lot, people in office watching. at home i roll the cargo cover over it, the box is the perfect height.

anyways any help or insight on this situation is much appreciated!

Does you headunit have an independent sub pre-out? If it does then chances are it's gotta be activated in the deck. If you really wanna show off your setup, take that amp off you box and find a sleek low-pro spot for it.

LOL i wish i was THERE fueler id say screw it to the system and go offroading with u or at least try lmao.

hey guys i know its hard to help me out through a forum but i appreciate all the help so far. this is the last little kink hopefully and im sure ill figure it out soon. it could be a simple setting on the JVC headunit...ima track down the model number and find a manual on it, maybe theres a setting for subwoofer out..it makes sense.

i found the manual on the head unit.....turns out there was a setting for subwoofer level, and it was max level. Tried lowering the level and still nothing. So the head unit is fine....got remote turn on working from it, and subwoofer enabled, and the rca's connected to the amp/subwoofer output.

so now ima go outside again and look into that amp a little more.

This is what I came up with:

AS-51002900W, 4X350 Watts + 1x1500W, 5 channels High Performance Mosfet Power Amplifier

Specification:

* Output Power (Max) : 2900Watts Max (350w x 4 @ 4 ohms), (1500w x 1 @ 4 ohms)* Output Power Bridged (Max) : 1400 Watts Max (700 x 2 @ 4 ohms)* Frequency Response: 10Hz-20 KHz + - 1dB* Input Sensitivity: < 250mv* Single Ratio: 97 dB* Speaker Impedance; stereo: 2-16 ohm* Bridge: 4-16 ohm

You need to bridge the connection so that you are pushing 700W x 2 @ 4 ohms, the subs probably arent turning on because you have wired the impedance wrong.
