Wow. He's a freaking stud. I carry an Emerson CQC-7 with me everywhere, but I don't know that I could have done that.

If I was him...I would have just slit my throat with the pocket knife...since I couldnt possibly cut my OWN arm off I'd rather just die quickly.

That guy is a real man. That would be so hard to do. He cut off an arm and then repelled down a cliff!?!?

OK cutting your arm off is real easy thing to do w/a good knife. If you go in between the joint it will seprate(sp) easy. I know this couse I have broken down many chickens. Chicken joints and people are the same excpt that peoples are bigger. This will sound kind of freaky but it kind of just pops out.

Still man, it would be insane knowing that you had to either cut off your arm or die. Cutting it off had to have taken some balls.

i would have died...

although i do find this very hard to believe because to my knowledge, when you go through this kind of trauma...dosent your body usually go into shock? if so, how would it be possible to repel down a cliff? wouldnt he have lost conciousness?

Doesn't matter if you believe it or not, it happened. And it's happened before. The human body is capable of some amazing things in survival mode. Wars have been won by similar men.

First thing I thought as a watched the news story: This is what seperates the men from the boys... That guy's hard core.

You need to get a real knife. You need to go here.

You'll get through just about anything...

Hard core, sure. But stupid too. If this guy had just had the forethought to let his roomate know where he was going and when he planned to be back he would probably still have both arms. First rule when you do this stuff is to make sure there is someone expecting you back. Glad to hear he is ok, but you would think someone with that much experience would be a little smarter.

As far as the bone thing, I bet he cut close to where the rock was. Chances are the bone was already broken, just had to free it up and pull.

I think it would of been quite possible for him to do that. His arm was trapped under a 800 pound rock, which probley means, crushed bones and dead veins, etc. etc. His arm was probley all numbed up, so he just pulled out that knife and cut away, if it went dull, he had a rock to sharpen it up on. After the wrapped the stub up in his shirt and went to the hospital. That guy is a warrior!!!

Nope - He cut tendons and ligaments. After that, there's nothing holding the elbow together. No need to cut through bone.

I heard he broke his arm bones in the forearm. I'm not sure though.

I think at that point in time he was acting purely on instinct. It is something almost nobody can imagine doing to themselves, but put in that situation you do what you have to do to survive.

Without question, he's one very tough SOB. Nosser hit the nail on the head though. Ya gotta let others know where you're going and when you're planning to return.
