Mazda is developing an all new MX-5. it is going to be built on the RX-8 platform. that means its going to be slightly bigger and less ghey than the current miata. it will also have th RX-8 front end. it would be cool if it had a rotary , but probably not. that car would fullfill my s16 needs.

Well, if you must know, I forget where I read but supposedly Nissan is working on the next S16. 3 different engines are being considered, and it is unknown of what the drivetrain layout will be.

it would be a big mistake if nissan goes FF in the next silvia. just like toyota did with the levin. but if they d, the next miata will be the hott import tuner car.

I love the newer face miatas (the ones sans popups). Those are actually pretty sexy...and really fun.

I like the new Mazdaspeed Miata also, but the "front mount" intercooler they have on there now makes it looks like its missing teeth or something

If I hadn't found my S13, a BP6 was what I wanted. I have always loved the sound that a tuned N/A 1.6 makes. Mazda builds the best chassis outside of Lotus, so anything they do will be awesome. The SE3P has an awesome chassis (from all that I have read, comparison shows even better than the Z33) so the new MX-5 will be most impressive. Yes, it is too bad that no one seems to love the FR 4 cylinder layout anymore:(

I shoulda gotten a Miata... but all my friends were screaming "chick car." They'd have shut up when I was miles ahead in the twisties (though, '88 Accord and an early 90's Chrysler minivan don't do much)... oh well, I'll have one one day. My uncle has a 5th Anniv. in British Racing Green.. mmm... despite the pop ups.

FR is a must. S16 would die with FF.

The miata is nota gay car. I love driving the little bastards. I still want one pop ups or a newer one don't matter. No power steering and 2200 pounds is so sweet. :D

Too bad that some people think that because they are so great, they are worth a ton. I went to look at a early 90 (crank wobble year) and the guy wanted $7k for a 67,xxx car. Had a hard top tho. I also came sooooo close to getting a 1992 with bad rings for $2200. Mariner Blue (many say the "gheyest" color, but the color that I want the most). I already had a shop lined up to do a full rebuld ($600 including parts and labor) and the money in hand. I asked the guy to wait till Friday so I didn't ahve to miss class to drive to Austin to get it. I told him I would pay $2500 for it. But he sold it to some kid that had $2000 in hand (on Wednesday) :(

Oh well.....I like my CA S13 more anyway;)

Oh and the "barn doors" (as the pop ups are called in the Miata community) are bad a$$. I hate the new ones...

the article in super street reads like this,

"Tetsu's Tails As it stands, Nissan is making plans to resurrect the Silvia in 2006. The all-new car, convieniantly coded S16, is likely to be offered with three engine choices. The base model should sport the QR20DE inline-four, based on the engine used in Nissan's European Touring Cars. The next step up may be the VQ23, a compact 2.3L V-6 powerplant. The piece de resistance will likely be a new supercharged VQ25. Early rumors had surfaced that the s16 would be marketed as the next-generation Sentra coupe here in the US, but reliable sourtces say thats incorrect. It is likely that platform will be sold in limited numbers sometime early next year. With that said, we can tell you there will be another Silvia, but we can't assure you of its drivetrain layout, or weither or not we'll ever be seeing it staeside. One can only hope. There's more exciting work being done at nissan. In addition to building an all new silvia, Nissan, along with its motorsports division, nismo, will be offering a special version of the R34 GT-R for sale, dubbed z-tune. Nismo will start by bla bla bla, the rest is about skylines and nismo's special deal for their 60th anniversery....

Personally i think Nissan should keep the S16 FR setup.

if it comes out its prolly not gonna be too pretty. The past silvias (s15 more or less excluded) have been kind of catering to passengers, but still sleek. Now nissan insists that all its cars and trucks look the same. Which worked OK on the Z but for the silvia they will prolly be shooting for something between a sentra SER and a 350z. I bet it won't look good to most of us the first time they show it, whether its FF or FR. But hopefully it will be FR, there are already so many fantastic FF cars out there, it would be nice to have the choice.

A V motor silvia? I dunno. Maybe I'm just a traditionalist, but the S chassis should keep the I-4 layout that made it famous

there is a niche demand for the silvia here. the 240 in general was never a great selling vehicle, but became popular and famous in the aftermarket.

Seeing as how Nissan didn't release the S15 here, it's a 50/50 if they would release an S16 here (pending on if it is definitely going into production).

With the GT-R coming in '07, Nissan could warm up with a new Silvia, but on the flip side, the silvia could possibly injure the sales of the GT-R.

I don't think it would hurt the GTR since it is a 60+ car

More likly would be the Z

long as nissan sale the car in the low 20s the car would sale like hot cake

Actually, I have heard from a couple sources that Mazda is seriously considering making a rotary available in the next MX-5. The really cool thing is that the rotary being considered will be a HYBRID rotary using the same basic hybrid system used by Honda in all of its hybrids. This will mean a rotary with some actual low end torque:), as well as great fuel consumption and emissions output.

Oh well. Lets wait and see. Ill probably take the 4 cylinder for a DD/Project car, but the V6 is also a possibility. Im just glad that Nissan is adding more cars to the line up and they better put a huge smile on my face just like the last batch of new stuff did.
