I dunno, I have mixed feelings about it. Reminds me of the xB too much.

I think it may have looked better with the classic diarrhea green combo and maybe more boxy looking

I'd love it if it were close in size to the original microbus, but this is actually a small vehicle, like an XB, which kinda disappoints me.

It's not a bus if it only carries 4 people. Who the fu*k decided this would pass as part of that lineage? :slap:

I agree, there is nothing 'bus' about it other than the color scheme.

THIS.

VW are idiots if they don't recognize this opportunity to cache in on the stigmatized minivan market with a stigma-proof design. The fact that they're not selling a nostalgically styled Microbus RIGHT NOW instead of the Crouton is proof that they have absolutely zero understanding of the US market. Which is nothing new...the Jetta and Passat have been all over the place for the last decade trying to find their place in the US, and to no avail.

Scion xB made love with a Ford Fusion and pooped out this horrible excuse for a "bus". And goddammit, I hate Beetles. I want to throw all of them into the fiery pits of hell.

It is a LOT better. I was hoping they'd do something more interesting with the front fenders and headlights (maybe they still will, considering that's a "spy shot") but there have still been some huge improvements.

The two most meaningful changes are the new roofline (particularly the A-pillar) and the longer nose. The original New Beetle (ugh...look what you've made me do, VW...I hate you) had fenders encroaching on the doors, and a hood that ran right back to the a-pillar. The redesign puts some space between the doors and fender, a-pillar and hood, and it makes a GIGANTIC difference. The new roofline and nose completely change the car's proportions.

VW has been teasing with microbus concepts for over a decade. I dont understand what the hold-up is.

I'm hoping the new New Beetle is also a RR to go back to it's roots, and it better enough space in that rear end to stuff a SBC.

Nope. It's Jetta/Golf-based again.

VW has a RR platform they considered using for the New Beetle, but that plan fell through.

RR in the redesigned Beetle is about as likely as their going back to their old aircooled motor. Not happening.

VW management really has lost touch with the North American Market. The reason they were successful here before here was because they made inexpensive, well made, reliable cars that can be fixed by any shop. The same formula usedco by the Japanese, and then the Koreans, and it still works today.

VW's new prices, quality, and reliability seem to be improving, but until they alter their arrogant strategy of making you a slave to their dealer for maintenance, they will never recapture their previous success.

Bench seats should be an option in everything but sports cars.

VW is cheaping out on features, suspension, and technology to bring MSRPs down to Hyundai, Toyota, Chevy, and Nissan's levels. The new Jetta wants to be the next Corolla -- a worthless lump of car that inexplicably sells in large quantities.

VW couldn't make it selling plebian-badged premium cars at premium prices, so they're hoping the VW image will help sell less than stellar duds.
