If you really want to get technical, original and traditional do not mean the same thing. Most people relate a Skyline's engine to an in-line 6.
Skyline isn't dead, it's different, to some people that means dead. These are usually the same people that say the Z died after the 280. The Skyline GT-R on the other hand IS dead.
The delay of the new GT-R is so because of all the new performance cars coming out (in my opinion). You have to be able to in some way trump them all (the ones in your price range anyway), and that takes time. Not the best example, but kinda like how the M3 came out three years after the remodeled 3-series. (I know that the GT-R will be considered a completely different vehicle than the Skyline, that's why I said it wasn't the best example.)
