When I did my RB20DET I used a different mounting. I used my stock cross member since I purchused a motor set. I made plates to fit the RB in place. They were different than I've ever seen hear. By making a step with the plates you can set the motor low enough to clear the hood with no cutting. I'll try to post pictures soon. These mounts cost me nothing to build since I did them myself.

I did not dent my firewall so my motor sits 1/2 in. forward in the shifter hole. No big deal. But I bet if I made my mounts 1/2 in. shorter and dented my firewall I could get my RB20 to fit perfect.

Actually, I think it kind of sucks to have my shifter sitting 5/8" forward. When it is in 1st, 3rd, and 5th, it almost hits the front of the shift hole. The rubbers and leather combine to push on the shifter too much. I would not be surprised if it starts to slip out of gear or slowly eats up synchros over time from being pushed on.

Trim out the metal hole in front of the shifter some and you'll be fine probably. I'm gonna personally mount mine so it lines up just right so I don't have to worry about that kinda stuff.

My shifter doesn't sit that far forward. I'm assuming you have a rb25. The shifter ,from what I gather, will sit a little lower because of the spacing from the transmission mounts. Maybe I'm wrong. I only have rb20det experience. Mine sits about 1/2 in. forward and isn't even close to hitting the hole.
