Question 1! THE GREAT HKS INTAKE BATTLE!

VS.

I've been talking to the good old boys of Phase2 and Hayaku Motorsports (based in SoCal and NorCal), and I am debating on whether to buy the HKS Super Mega Flow Intake or the HKS Racing Suction intake. in terms of size, they are the same for the piping and filter element. the only thing that makes them different, is of course, the piping itself. the SMF uses the softer rubber pipe found on most SRs, while the RS uses a stainless pipe.

i've been told by Hayaku Motorsports that in terms of performance, they are one in the same, and that the rubber hose will contract and retract in the temperature differences. other than that, if your all about the bling, get the RS.

BUT!

Phase 2 guys told me that the SMF does not come with the piping to the compressor outlet. the RS does, and that is why the RS is nearly double the price of a SMF.

so....

Which one of you guys out there have either one of these intakes? Could i you help me in this debate?! thanks!

Question 2: REAR MAIN SEAL REPLACEMENT

Is the Non-turbo SR rear main seal identical to the turbo SR? if so does anybody know where i can get a replacement rear main seal? Oil is leaking into my bell housing causing my clutch to slip occasionally. Terrible terrible thing.

Anyway, thanks!

I have an Enjuku hardpipe and an Apexi filter.

Odds are it still cost less that that complete HKS kit.

Apexi is indeed the best... They did a test on all the filters (some japanese site) and IIRC, HKS sucked balls.

No,Greddy's just like the HKS.Its the foam filter they use. After it gets old and from the heat of the engine little piece's of the filter start to brake off.If you dont want the Apexi K&N makes a good filter too.

i was browsing around one day, and i found this test on all the major brand intakes (HKS, Blitz, Apex'i, K&N), and i was astonished by the test.

in terms of filtering and power performance, the Apex'i stands tall above Blitz SUS and HKS SMF. its peak was measured at 14.1 HP. the Blitz and HKS were identical in filtering and power at around 13 HP.

how the filtering test was conducted was they placed a pre-filter paper on top of a vacuum and tightened each filter to the vacuum hose. then they sucked dirt out of a pan.

NOW!

in realistic terms, does anybody here in the United States actually live in places that actually have THAT much dirt floating in the air? i mean i thought about this question again, and i mean, c'mon. that aint realistic. think about the major tuners in Japan. if you take a look at Top Secret, Feast Racing Service, and majority of the top tuners in japan, you will notice hardly any have utilized an Apex system. why?

if you are after power, HKS and Blitz ACTUALLY maintained that 13 HP gain throughout the entire powerband. Apex'i intakes have 1 HP more but they power dropped midrange.

so generally, if you live in the dust bowl then avoid HKS and Blitz like the plague. Apex is a good intake do not get me wrong.

in terms of its filtering elements, the foam in the HKS will break down if you wet it, and obviously will be sucked into the turbo. so please, do not get this thing wet. Blitz is washable according to most of my friends running that filter. Apex is just as good as Blitz in terms of durability.

WHAT I AM AFTER is consistent power and decent filtering. i choose HKS based on consumer reviews and consistent power throughout the RPM range. there is not 20 tons of dust floating around where i live.

my question still isnt answered though! let me make this more specific.

PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO HAVE AN HKS Intake! WHICH ONE DO YOU HAVE AND HOW HAS IT WORKED FOR YOU? haha

oh and i went to Superior Nissan in Fremont today, and damn....it costs $53.41 for that rear main seal, and it wont come in for another week or two.

-_-...lame.

Hmmm... I think Im the only one on the planet who has a Power Enterprises intake. I wanted to buy an Apexi but HT was out of stock.

My friends FD sucked the HKS filter though his turbo a few months ago on the dyno, he also had to do a new rebuild and buy a new turbo. I wouldn't trust one, my next will be a Apexi.

Um dude...

Apexi makes more power, and does so with cleaner air.

I do too, except the fact that it weighs like 5 lbs.
