But also he told me some news, which seemed to surprise a few Mitsubishi Europe bods as much as it did me.

The Lancer Evolution X, Eusegi told me, will be the last Evo. “There is still a demand [for the car],” he said, “but we must stop.” Eyebrow up.

“Our influence now is EV technology,” Eusegi said, adding that the decision was a “policy change”.

It seems Mitsubishi, which is going to introduce eight full electric or hybrid cars by 2015, has decided its image is about lowering CO2, not making lurid replicas of rally cars that don’t go top-level rallying any more.

Eusegi said that customers would find it “easier to understand” what Mitsubishi was about if it was no longer in this motorsport-inspired market.

For some reason, I'm not really sad to see it go. :gotme Dropping it for more eco crap, but saying that there is still a demand for it?
That's commercial seppuku! Image

i guess the sti is going to be triumphant (for the sole reason that it will still exist) as much as i hate to say that; i've always been more of an evo person.

the fact that the evo is no more makes me a sad panda. :frown:

I hope this means they're killing of the Lancer as a whole. Ugly, bland, and one of the cheapest-feeling cars in history, I will not miss it. As I've said for a long time, tacking 300hp onto a POS does not change the fact that it's a POS.

Without a bar to reach for, Toyota will be free to continue blandifying the Impreza in all its forms.

I know there's a joke there, but it's over my head.

I have been, and always will be, a fan of "sleeper" cars. To me, the Evo and the STi were, in their purest form, just that. However, I'd want them to look like any other Lancer and Impreza, respectively.

I shall now go back to my retirement project aspiration of putting a full AWD 4G63T drivetrain in a Mirage DE coupe.

I've liked the subies more (probably because I hold a grudge for the Fast and Furious 2 version of the evo but yes the subie in the ast F&F wasn't great either) but will miss the one-upping from one another.

i hate to see it go as i have always loved DSM's and the evo, but to be honest they have taken the evo down the wrong road the past 3 or 4 years going from an out right bad a$$ 4 door sports car holding its on, to well lets be honest something that is more family oriented. To me that's not what the evo name is all about, lets look at where it started and all the great things that where....to what it is now. same with the STI on a less dramatic scale.

said to see it go but really wont miss them making the name any worse.

Hopefully they will axe the Impreza next. I was never a fan of the rally clones and since Toyota and Nissan have cut their nuts off, Mitsubishi and Subaru might as well too.
