All while the KA is sitting at already 2.4 liters, and can go higher. So the KA has a higher ceiling for power, more torque in the lower rev range, and more displacement.
And why is there more SR's at the high(500) hp range? Because most people go down the well beaten path.
let's not forget the torque advantage
1) there are plent, and i mean PLENTY, of 500+ hp SR that are not stroked. Hell there are people with 500hp on the stock bottem end on the SR.
2) Both engines are great for turbo. The SR just makes it a little easier because all the oil and water lines etc. are already ncorperated in the origional build of the motor. The KA requires some modification. As far as a ceiling for power, i have seen a 750hp SR20DET in a magazine, so im sure some day someone can reach that with the KA.
3) your absolutely right, SR path is well worn thanks to entusiasts in japan, but the KA turbo has tons of support in america, with multiple (at least 5) companies making turbo kits and tons of engine parts for the KA.
4) torque is in the turbo
which is better? neither i think. I went with the SR because i wanted to completely take my car apart and learn how things go together and function as a system. Neither option is inexpensive either. If you car is turbo, its going to be a money pit.
