Hi, I am new to the site and this is my first post. I am ready at 20,000 miles to replace my original Bridgestone Potenza 19" tires on my 06 G35 coupe. I have looked at all the posts on the site, searched Tire Rack and dedicated tire sites and I am still pretty confused. I want a tire that lasts, has a comfortable ride, and good grip. Price is also a consideration but I would spend the coin if I could get all of the afore mentioned. I have checked out Yoko's but they sound like kidney shakers, Pilots(are they worth it?) And the Potenzas wore out way too fast. Thanks and this is a great site especially for guys like me who like hot whips but know nothing about cars!

Went with some Yoko's as well...

Quiet, good grip, good tread...great tire

I'm really looking into the Toyo Proxes 4a stickier tire with a lot less tread is the TOYO TR1, but they are good

check out http://www.tiredeals4less.com

great prices on the tires

Welcome to the forum.

I have the original Good Years on my G. I don't have 19 inch tires, but I agree with the Yoko Avid suggestion. I had them on a previous car and loved them. They were quiet and lasted and handled well.

Has anybody run the Invos mentioned in the sticky on their 19s? I'm thinking about those for the next set, but I'm not sure. The tread pattern and compound description sound awesome.

I'm getting new tire this week too. I think the Yoko's suck the penor. I would only use them again if they were free.

I will be replacing them with Falken FK452's. Those lasted me forever on my Maxima, and the Maxima spent many days at the dragstrip, where as the G hasn't made it there yet.

I got 25k out of the Falkens, before I gave the car to my stepson. He has been driving it for 9 months now, and I'm guessing about 10k miles, and they are still going great. So, 35k miles on the Falkens, as opposed to the 11k that the G got out of the Jokohamas.

Which 'Jokohamas' did you have???

Just replace Falkens (SUPER LOUD!!!) with Yoko's on daughter's Max.

But, maybe just the 512's suk?!

I have the Toyo Proxes T1R. Great tires, especially for take-offs. Very sticky too!. Grip is just as good as Bridgestone Potenzas. Tire is intuitive and very responsive. Performs excellently in the rain as on dry ground---unbeleivable! Still waiting to see how it wears!

i've Falken 912 on my G. They are better then the OEM. I had toreplace the oem tires at 18k km. Now I have 34k on my G and still lot left. I use it Xtremely hard every day.

512 were loud and heavy. 912 is much better on road noise.

I have a 07sedan-sport with 18" rims: original tires were the 050a potenzas.

they wear quick - but for this second winter, i got all season tires for more reliability in the colder weather... even tho i still had over 50% tread left on my potenzas.

I purchased the new Goodyear Eagle F1 all seasons* - 1 set from tirerack... with a $40 rebate - so it worked out to be a great price.

Not sure if you need all season capabilities - but this tire is awesome in everyway - even dry traction. -only one drawback - is rolling -cruising -they are loud-louder than the potenzas.

If and when I get summer tires again, I'd try out the Sumitomo Hrtz III... rated well - and alot cheaper than the michelin Pilots - which are way too expensive! Sumitomo is a company joint with Dunlop.

Jokohama ES100's.

I had Falked FK451's, but since those aren't made anymore, I will be going with the FK452's. They are virtually the same exact design, but have two grooves that are near the center, to lessen road noise.

I've heard that the Falkens are really loud, even the 452 which just replaced the 451

TOYO Proxes 4 are supposed to be almost as good as the TR1 but should have much better tread wear.

Go with that

451's were rather quiet. Not as loud as the Jokohama ES100's.

Thanks Beaner!I've had good & bad(RS-A) goodyears, good(RE750) & bad(RE92) bridgestones.Michelins have always been good for me too. Hoping these Avids live up to the reviews I've read. I have them on my wife's G and daughter's Max. These are an all season as opposed to a summer only.(The Potenza RE750's have been great on my cobra.)

I always wanted to try the RE750s, but never got a chance on my I30. I don't think I'd put them on my G though.

I have the Pilot Sports up front, but it's kind of hard to give a good rating on non-driven tires. They have gotten me out of a few accidents though. Like when a Z4 offered itself as target practice in the parking lot last week

I have the 19's and ran the original Bridgestone RE050s for 27k miles. I drove like a granny 99% of time to get that kind of miles out of them. My experience with them was such that I would never buy them again just due to the amount of noise. I just went with the Michellen Pilot PS2s and they are much quieter and the ride is much better. Some of the roads around the Sacto, CA area are in terrible condition. The RE050's would "hop" around on bad roads. The PS2s run much smoother. I purchased them at Infiniti 'cause they were buy 3 and get the 4th for a $1. It still ran about $1300 for all four after install. I have no idea about grip as I still drive like a granny.

I have Invo tires, but they are 18s. So far the ride noise is not noticable and the grip is fanfntastic in both wet and dry conditions.

I replaced my Potenza's with Pilot Sport 2's...probably one of the nicest tires I have ever had on a car. Much quieter than the Bridgestones and have tons more grip!

I think the best thing to do when buying tires is to find a test from a magazine. They test many different tires on the same car and actually measure results. Here is a link for a good test from car and driver:

Nitto INVO are so quiet. My brother bought a set 235-35-19 on his Maxima I could not hear any road noise, smooth. We don't get rain here much (duh)Vegas, so I don;t know how good they are in the rain.

zerothread?id=307229

Lots of opinions but after a few months I am still happy with them. Expensive yes but I got 47k miles out of the originals and I am rotating these every 6k miles and expect to get 50k miles out of them.

Thanks guys. the response has been incredible. So many different opinions still makes it a little confusing but I think g35sedan lover summed it up pretty well, a review from a discerning mag like C+D can answer a lot of questions. I may try the Goodyears which got a very high rating. I will probably get them from Town Faire Tire because if I don't like them I can return them within 30 days. I will keep you all posted. Any bad experiences with goodyears let me know. Thanks and I am very glad I joined the site!

Can't beat the price of the General Exchlaims.. .Rated number 1 on tirerack.com

275 30 19 and 245 35 19

Do a search on their website on these tires.

Might watch those, that is the highest rated by the consumer, not the company. They are not being compared against other tires when they rate them, so neither should you. Not saying they are bad, just don't go by that rating.

In general, people who spend a lot of money for something, are more critical in the rating (so better performing things often get lower ratings). When I was researching mountain bike, I saw a $1500 Jamis with a higher consumer rating then a trek fuel 100 ($4500). I have rode both, the trek is 50 times better in every way, hands down...

Here is a review from actual test results done by tirerack.

Ha, I know this doesn't apply to the thread. But I would love to know what riding on a $4,500 mountain bike feels like.

A $500 bike is the highest my butt has ever touched, ha I can't see it getting close anytime soon.
