At 218K I am looking to throw in the towel. Just replaced my second window regulator and a 323Ci is looking real nice right now.

Don't go German! Not worth it! There is a good likely hood that you will have more problems. Kraut cars typically have flakey/biodgradable/tempermental electrical systems + really expensive parts.

Don't get me wrong....I have enjoyed the Q I got it with 124K and have done under the plenum, done the struts, done the alternator, had the front end screwed up by Scottsdale F'ing Infiniti $1,000.00, various other things (oh! head lights over paid $600.00) but the last straw was the window regulator (simple to change out took less than an hour) on the drive side then the passenger side a week later. What's next....that's what this issue is.....I can't put more money into a car that gets marginal gas milage and has a value less than $2000.

I know how you feel. Just wait for all those problems with the German Engineering. Talk about tempermental.

You better keep the Q, for all those weeks that BMW will be in the shop. It will pay for itself in saved rental car charges in no time.

Seriously, a Q in the stable is a nice thing to have.

Sounds like the BMW. I am very happy with the mileage I get for the way I drive and the comfort and performance I have.

BMW doesn't get any cheaper to repair as it ages, either.

Evie is wanting a new 745. Every time we see one, she starts talking about joining the BMW forum...

The bad part is, We see about 4 or 5 every stinking day while we are out.

I told her we are about $100K short of getting one, start saving.

OUCH, sounds like you've got a tough battle there Jeff. You've been married long enough to know you can't just say "No". What happened to the Vette??

Good luck.

If youre trying to save money on maintenance and fuel, it might be best to consider a Maxima, Accord, or small sports car like a Miata or Prelude. You won't gain much by switch to a 3-series unless you particularly prefer the BMW look and feel.

If youre looking to sell and the interior is clean, I'll look you up in the spring.

I'll definetly 2nd the electrical,Benz and BMW belive it or not has some of the worst electrical systems around.Just pay attention next time your behind one and see if there back lights are working properly,I assure you that you'll find most with some kind of light out.Get a BMW I guess if your single and wanna catch more tail.By switching your also changing the type of car ,a Q is a luxry sedanA 3 series could be bad a$s such as a M series but its a coupe less room, comfort If I was single and had the cash I'll go with the bmw prolly, chicks dig it more.A Q chicks just look at and think nice car, what is it,It looks expensiveMaybe ppl have diff opions but thats my 2cents

Wm - I had a spare I'd have given you for free.

The lesson here is not, "This damn car is too expensive to maintain."

It's "Why the hell didn't I post up on the forum and take a chance on a local hooking me up?"

Besides, a window regulator is a lot cheaper than a car payment.

Buying a used 2000 323ci if deal goes through. Really like the coupe but still need four seats (a very used 911 would be nice but don;t go there). Car payment??? whats that??? I have not had a car payment for over 10 years. As far as maintenance I guess I'm on the hook and I also have a truck that I can use to tow the BMW home.

if your Q has been maintained, its always cheaper to make it perfect than to buy a new car... EVEN if you have to buy a new engine and transmission (5 grand installed worst case) that is still cheaper than a car payment... the body just doesnt wear out...

The Vette is nicely protected in it's place as primary fun car. It gets out when the weather is nice, and we go cruising. Ice T is nicely protected and in it's place as primary driving car, when she goes anywhere she wont get a door ding. Lola is sitting in the driveway and in it's place as primary driving car to the grocery store, gym, and church. It also serves as back-up for me, when Layla is tired of driving all over the place. Then there is Layla, she is the workhorse. She gets 50-60K miles each year. Gracie, my 1962 GMC truck is on stand-by for any hauling needs. I guess Ice T would have to go, to make room for a BMW.

As far as the 3 Series, everyone I know that has one, loves it.

Frickin Krauts :<

My dad had a 2000 323i sedan, 5 speed which he recently sold and bought a Boxster. He loved the Bimmer, never had a single problem or complaint with it and he and my mom took it on road trips from Maryland to Texas, and MD to GA without any issues. My good friend has owned at least 4 M3's (1 past gen, 3 current gen's) and never had any issues with them, and they were all highly modded.

Enjoy your new car.
