I actually have a ton of respect for our law enforcement, except when they act like this.

So I left work on my lunch break to go walk the dog at my apartment. The speed limit on most CA freeways is 65, I was doing around 70. I see a CHP truck pull onto the freeway but I'm good so I keep cruising in the fast lane while everyone else in my lane pulls away doing 75/80. The CHP truck makes 2 lane changes without signaling and gets right on my a** and I mean right on. So I pull into the middle lane to let him pass. He paces me and is positioned about where the handle for my back passenger doors are, basically in my blind spot. Then he guns it and shouts over his PA for me to slow down. :wtf2:

I get home, hang out with Ziggy for a few, take her for a walk, then head back to work. On my way back I get passed up by another CHP this time in a cruiser. I'm doing about 65 in the middle lane of 3 lanes and as he passes me I move into the fast lane. He signals and changes lanes, which I'm glad to see, as if he's exiting the freeway. Then all of the sudden he swerves back behind me and pulls me over. I ended up getting a ticket for tinted windows and no front plate. There are so many people out there driving with recklessly and they pull my a** over for my tint? After he gives me the ticket I pull back onto the freeway and h gets back on about 100 yards behind me. As soon as he gets on I see him flip his light and pull someone else over. What a f*** @sshole!

They need money man. They're making quota for the end of the month. It's why I've been cruising with my front windows down. :couch

I got popped for no mirrors on my motorcycle.

I've got the plastics off which includes the mirrors. I had to run to the parts store quick. Not even a mile round trip.

$101... Didn't even give me a fix it ticket. It's a none moving violation, so no points. The guy was really nice, but come on... I even told him why they were off.

I've tried figuring out how to get the ticket dropped. Pretty much the only way is to plead not guilty and then go to court. The problem is that I was guilty of the infraction. So it would be up to the judge to decide if he wants to be nice...

Law enforcement in Illinois isn't any better than what you're describing in Cali. It's an entrepreneurial endeavor between the 20th and end of every month, and every long weekend or peak holiday travel season.

And up here, I see ISP cruisers regularly ignoring the contruction zone speed limit and turning on their lights just to get through an intersection when they aren't in pursuit or sometimes even in uniform.

I used to enjoy driving in Illinois, but not anymore. They, like CA, have gotten money-hungry and would gladly endanger other motorists to chase down a guy with dark tint.

BUT GOSH, DON'T YOU GUYS FEEL SO MUCH SAFER? I SURE DO.

OMG, in IL don't ever get caught transporting a gun in their state if you're not a resident!

Those motherf***ers are crazy!

I had a .22 in the trunk during a stop a year ago. They asked if their were any guns in the car. I made the mistake of saying yes. Wow did they raise hell about that. Some talk about trafficking weapons or some other BS because we were from out of state and obviously didn't have a IL gun registration card!

God damn Nazy state!!!

Honestly, how would we remove laws like this?

Well the law was created with good intention and officer safety in mind. The problem is that it doesn't stop ANYONE from doing it and is pretty much there to generate revenue. The whole point of passing a law is to deter society from performing or not performing a certain action. If society doesn't give a s*** then it's rendered useless and should be removed because society has deemed it unnecessary. Isn't that the foundation upon what this country is built, laws passed by vote and not a dictator?

Common argument, but I don't buy it. With untinted windows I can just as easily kill a cop. I've seen videos where the cop approaches a car and is shot right through the door/window by the driver who has a gun on their lap. The windows do nothing to change this. What the law was created for was so that the officer can see into the car and find other illegal things going on. It's completely a revenue generator and a way to find crimes that would otherwise go unnoticed. The safety argument is bunk.

The law works better as a retributive mechanism. As a deterrence, it just plain doesn't work. That's like expecting a hospital to cure disease.

I feel you, brotha! I got a tint ticket a few weeks ago. Luckily it was in Utah so the ticket only cost me $50. I got one in AZ one time and it was around $200. I'm not going to live in the 115 degree weather without tint so I just budget it in. I set aside $15 a month for "tint tax". When I get the tickets I just pay them and move on.

I think the tint laws are insane.

Yeah, but in Illinois tint tickets can earn you a criminal record. The second offense is a misdemeanor. That was the only reason I scraped them off my car. I didn't care if I had a criminal record for something stupid. But I have a feeling there are employers out there that would see it a bit differently.

Ugh... This BS again...

You can get legal tints that stop more heat then your dark tint.

You should take that "Tint tax" money and save up for Huper or F1 tint.

I don't agree with some of the draconian requirements for tint, but if you go past the regs and you get fined, don't act like it wasn't coming, especially in a state as universally known to bleed motorists for money as Cali. And no front plate? Come on now.

As for WHY there are tint laws? numerous justifications are used, some more specious than others, ranging from safety of cops during a cop to driver visibility. I would argue they don't proctect cops so much because someone in a back seat could be perfectly concealed since tint laws almost always apply only to the front 3 windows.

My wife called me on her way to work this morning. She said she saw 3 CHP's on the side of the road each about 1/2mi apart and each with a victim.

If you're flying 3 lanes over on the highway to nail someone doing 65 in a 60 with dark tint, you're creating a hazard.

Agreed.

While I think you deserved the ticket, there was no need for the cop to change lanes without signaling like that.

Cops driving recklessly is a different issue altogether. They seem to do that regardless. It doesn't matter if they're going after someone for driving with their music to loud, a drug dealer firing a gun out of his car, or simply driving home doing that tailgate everyone 'till they move over thing. It's an overreaction and inappropriate, but it doesn't change the fact that like it or not, it's a legitimate ticket. If you live in an area known for bleeding motorists for budget money, you either suck it up and obey the law, or you accept exactly what the consequences you might be if you break even the most inane traffic law.
